Our client is seeking a Linux Systems Operations Engineer Team Lead. This is an indefinite contract. They want an individual in this role every year. This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Linux infrastructure and operations team . A local candidate is needed to attend in person meetings for 1 day every two week with upper management.
This includes technically managing a team of system administrators, monitoring performance of systems, ensuring security compliance, and addressing day-to-day issues. The ideal candidate will possess extensive technical knowledge and have excellent communication, technical leadership, and project management skills. Environment is legacy Linux systems and on premise private cloud.
Leadership Responsibilities of the Linux Systems Team Lead
Effectively managing team assigned tasks ensuring deadlines are met.
Lead infrastructure projects from planning through implementation
Coordinate with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions
Advise IT Management on technical issues and preferred solution.
Collaborating with other teams.
Ensuring that industry best practices are adhered to.
Lead and mentor team members
Technical Responsibilities of the Linux Systems Team Lead
Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers.
Ensure that security best practices are adhered to for all systems.
Review IT Systems, ensuring that security and OS vulnerabilities are applied.
Review of IT Systems eliminating single points of failure, thus increasing system availability.
Qualifications of the Linux Systems Team Lead
5+ years of experience in Linux system administration.
2+ years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
Expertise in Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu).
Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Github).
Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl).
Knowledge of virtualization and containerization technologies (e.g., VMware, Docker, Kubernetes).
Understanding of network protocols, services, and security.
Must possess stellar troubleshooting skills, being able to identify root cause of issues.
Experience in managing and maintaining SAN storage infrastructure.
Experience in configuring and tuning system and application monitoring.
Experience in deploying, configuring, troubleshooting software applications.
Experience with RedHat Satellite and/or Oracle Linux Manager.
Knowledge of databases such as SQL, MS SQL, MySQL, NoSQL, Hadoop, Elasticsearch, Redis, Cassandra, Oracle, and/or Mongo
Must be a motivated self-starter that stays current on industry trends and technologies.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent work experience.
