General Summary
This position defines, designs, and implements compute, storage and network solutions. This is a fully seasoned professional level (Senior level) capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance or review. The job of a City of Atlanta Server & Cloud Engineer involves various tasks, duties, and responsibilities, which are shown in the job description below. This position is focused on the day-to-day support & operations and will assist on projects as needed. The position could be asked to come onsite at any point.

Technical Skills:
- Windows Server Administration:
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Windows Server environments (Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022).
- Managing Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP File and Print services, and other core services.
- PowerShell scripting for automation and task management.
- System Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
- Monitoring system performance and resolving issues related to servers, network connectivity, and system updates.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like Nagios, SolarWinds, or Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM).
- Security and Compliance:
- Managing firewall configurations, antivirus software, and patch management.
- Applying security policies and ensuring compliance with IT regulations (HIPAA, GDPR, etc.).
- Implementing role-based access controls (RBAC) and managing permissions.
- Backup and Disaster Recovery:
- Experience with backup solutions like Veeam, PPDM, Avamar, APEX, Acronis, or Windows Backup.
- Creating disaster recovery plans, including off-site backup and failover procedures.
- Virtualization:
- Experience with Hyper-V and VMware for managing virtual machines.
- Understanding storage configurations (SAN, NAS, ISCSI, FC, DAS) in virtualized environments.
- Cloud Services:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure or AWS, VMC on Dell and VMC on AWS, Office365, Exchange Management, VXRAIL for managing cloud-based Windows and Linux servers.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (IaaS, PaaS) and hybrid environments.
- Networking:
- Understanding TCP/IP, subnets, routing, and network troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of VPNs, remote access, and network security measures.
- Linux Exposure: Some roles may also expect a Windows admin to have a basic understanding of Linux systems in a mixed environment
Soft Skills:
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve server and system issues efficiently.
- Communication: Ability to work with both technical and non-technical staff to explain issues, procedures, and solutions.
- Teamwork: Collaborating with other IT staff, developers, and stakeholders to ensure smooth IT operations.
- Time Management: Managing multiple projects and tasks with deadlines, often in a fast-paced environment.
- Documentation: Maintaining clear documentation for system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and user guides.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is required, (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).
Mid-level: 3-5 years of experience managing and maintaining Windows-based IT infrastructure, including more advanced tasks like virtualization and cloud management.
5 years of I.T. experience.
Preferred Education & Experience
Master's degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the master's degree on an exception basis) with 5-8 years' of directly related professional work.
Licensures and Certifications
Common certifications include:
Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Fundamentals or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect
CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or CompTIA Security+
VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) (for roles involving virtualization and networking).
