The Role
Reports to the Director and sits within the Telecomm & Network Services department, which is part of the University’s Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) group and is one of five divisions within ETS. Our ETS department is dedicated to the delivery of the highest quality central IT infrastructure and support that the university can offer. Our teams are ready to help meet the IT needs of students, faculty & staff, and departments.
Network Services manages network, Internet, and phone services in 293 buildings on campus and 19 offsite facilities, and is focused on three major components: security, connectivity, and performance. The Network Engineer will play a critical role in designing and managing the University's applications and networks, therefore helping ETS provide innovative technology solutions that impact and transform all areas of UVM.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-level design (IPv4 and IPv6), troubleshooting and management functions for the University Network.
- Providing problem resolution for applications which run over the local University network and Internet.
- Configure, troubleshoot and maintain the Voice over IP infrastructure, E-911, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, routers, switches, DWDM and Ethernet technologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering or related discipline and four years’ experience in design, troubleshooting, and management of medium- or large-sized enterprise TCP/IP networks required.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex network problems.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a cross-functional team required.
- Experience with network performance monitoring, and debugging tools, 802.1x, Radius and/or AML/SSO authentication, wireless, network intrusion detection, IPv6, IP video, VoIP, EIGRP, BGP and network and server virtualization are highly desirable.
