The Opportunity
Responsible for assisting the credit union President/CEO in the overall management of the credit union. Directly responsible for leading the Information Technology and Project Management Team, which includes aligning people, process and technology with the current and future strategies of the Credit Union. Accountable to identifying and delivering IT strategies and capabilities across the organization; including data analytics, business intelligence, development and support, infrastructure, security and technical services. Directly responsible for providing oversight and direction to IT and business leaders on strategy, standards, and opportunities for shared services and economies of scale. Provides vision and leadership within the credit union planning process, responsible for IT operations as well as technology and digital innovation.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures, strategic plan, and applicable federal, state and local laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, and hiring employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; coaching, counseling, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; promoting, demoting, transferring, and terminating employees; developing strategic direction for the credit union’s technology initiatives and overseeing the budgeting process for IT and project management. The CIO is expected to foster a culture of growth by mentoring staff and equipping them with the sills to develop their own teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Information Technology, Project Management
Strategic Leadership
- In conjunction with the Chiefs and CEO, directs and participates in the credit union’s development, implementation, and achievement of strategic objectives.
- Proactively advises the senior management team on emerging technologies and digital trends relevant to the credit union's goals and evolving needs.
- Develops an IT vision, strategy, roadmap, and leads the IT team in effective execution.
- Establishes and ensures the implementation of target goals for the Information Technology departments; monitors goals to ensure achievement.
Technology Oversight
- Directs and supervises all technology and project management functions within the credit union.
- Manages the IT infrastructure, systems, and applications to effectively support operational needs and member services.
- Maintains oversight of all IT projects, ensuring that commitments are properly planned, staffed, monitored, and reported.
- Works with other department heads to maintain consistency in credit union policies and procedures; establishes and enforces IT policies, processes, and methodologies.
Team Management
- Hires, develops, evaluates, rewards, and retains a highly qualified team of IT professionals.
- Leads, mentors, and develops a large IT department, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensures that direct reports are granted proper authority and responsibility to carry out assigned functions.
Project Management
- Oversees the project management team to ensure successful delivery of technology projects, on time and within budget.
- Ensures the organization has strong systems analysis and project management skills to execute business-critical projects.
IT Governance and Compliance
- Establishes and maintains a robust strategy to protect member data and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Establishing IT policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Assists examiners and auditors to ensure IT practices comply with necessary regulations.
Vendor Management
- Reviews, recommends, and oversees all vendors and managed service agreements for computing, telecommunications, IT services, and equipment.
- Establishes and maintains strategic relationships with internal and external business partners.
Budget Management
- Prepares and monitors IT operational budgets that meet prevailing objectives and constraints.
- Develops and manages the IT budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources aligned with organizational priorities.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Builds strong relationships with business groups and their leaders across the enterprise, developing a detailed understanding of their issues, challenges, and opportunities.
- Communicates goals and direction to IT staff to ensure a clear understanding of requirements and expectations.
Committee Involvement
- Serves as a member of the Security Risk Committee, keeping all members informed of relevant technological changes.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
- Identifying and evaluating emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency and improve member services.
- Oversees the contract negotiations and service level agreements to maximize value for the credit union.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Experience And Other Requirements
- Eight to ten years of similar or related experience in a significant company-wide IT strategy and operation management role required.
- Proven progressive supervisory experience with emphasis on creating a team environment required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of evolving technologies in the financial industry.
- Knowledgeable of various operating systems available in today’s environment.
- A good understanding of the credit union industry.
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills required.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to manage a number of priorities simultaneously, establish and meet deadlines, coordinate activities with other departments, and perform job with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Must possess the ability to interact positively with Management, the Board, other Volunteers, coworkers, and the public to promote a team effort and maintain a positive attitude even under extreme pressure.
