Position Overview:
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is an integral member of the Leadership Team and responsible for the strategic leadership, management, and oversight of the school’s information technology (IT) systems and infrastructure. The CIO will ensure that The School leverages technology to support and enhance the educational experience, improve administrative efficiency, and secure data integrity and privacy. This role requires a visionary leader with the ability to align IT strategies with the school’s academic and operational goals, driving innovation and operational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct day-to-day operations and work processes of the school’s technology department.
- Develop the development and implementation of strategic and overall operating
- plans for technology and assessment.
- Ensure appropriate equipment, materials and resources are available to meet the school’s needs and goals.
- Coordinate the review and evaluation of key program initiatives for effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.
- Teach in the classrooms of Early Childhood the appropriate technology for grades Pre-K through Transitional First.
- Work with the Academic Technology Coordinator to transition between Early Childhood and Lower School.
- Works in conjunction with the Director of IT in assessing the future technology needs as it relates to the network, individual computers, and network software.
- Oversee operations and resources to enhance administrators, staff, faculty, and students in the understanding of educational practices related to curriculum.
- Responsible for keeping up to date on new and advanced technologies appropriate to a Pre-K-4 academic setting.
- Instruct all school personnel in the use of software, digital resources, and online
- learning resources as they pertain to secure, business and educational standards of technology use.
- Develop and manage the school’s technology annual budget.
- Manages strategic vendor and technology partner relationships.
- Coordinate the skills development of all employees in the operation of technology.
- Coordinate development, refinement and execution of the school’s technology strategic plan.
- Supervises the Director of IT, Academic Technology Coordinator, Database
- Specialist, and the IT Support Specialist.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School (HoS).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise all outside technology vendors working at the school.
- Supervise the technology department.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years hands on experience with previous experience as a Technology Director, director or similar leadership role.
- Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) certification required or must be attained within one year of hire.
- At least four years’ experience in K-12 education preferred.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A proven record of accomplishment in enterprise technology, ideally in a K-12 academic setting.
- Ability to demonstrate capability to articulately guide and counsel the school in adoption of new, advanced technologies appropriate to the Pre-K-4 academic setting.
- Visionary leadership skills
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong verbal and written presentation abilities.
- Ability to make decisions, exhibit sound and accurate judgment and make these decisions in a timely manner.
- Ability to prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently and develop realistic action plans.
- Exhibits a proactive attitude towards the future path of the school’s technology.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment.
- Stand, walk, and bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull and move, lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs. to waist height.
- Must be able to work evening and weekend events as scheduled throughout the year.
