Payment Risk is responsible for catching billions of dollars of fraudulent transactions across 22+ WW retail stores through advanced ML models, and 2,300+ human investigators in our Operations organization. As Amazon’s retail business continues to scale and grow across marketplaces, our organization needs to ensure we’re using industry leading technologies and solutions to combat sophisticated bad actors from abusing Amazon and its customers.
We are seeking a Senior Product Manager (T) for the Payment Risk Operations organization who is passionate about building the next generation of Tools & Security products to detect and prevent fraudulent behaviors across Amazon’s WW retail stores. This role will develop our long-term product ecosystem strategy (5 product types), manage the product roadmap from plan to execution, drive feature trade-off discussions that balances between customer experiences and business goals, and partners with stakeholders from Engineering, ML, Product/Program, Operations, UX, Workforce Management, and Analytics across our different geographical sites. The ideal candidate will have the ability to think big about the evolution of our products and tools with ML/GenAI technologies, tactically structure their thought process to solve complex and ambiguous problems, and adapt their working & communication style across a range of stakeholders from investigators on the ground to Amazon Leadership teams.
Payments Risk designs and builds the software systems, risk models and operational processes that minimize risk and maximize trust in Amazon.com. Not only do we protect all aspects of the Amazon shopping experience, we also deliver services to large and small merchants hosted on the Amazon platform. In addition, we evaluate new business opportunities from across the company to determine how we can minimize the risk associated with new initiatives. As a Senior Product Manager(T), you will be responsible for developing products and services that protect and better the experience for our Customers. You must possess a strategic understanding of business objectives and be creative enough to help define what we build. You will lead the vision of your products, manage the product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical execution, and deliver solutions that will reduce business and fraud risks. You will develop product requirements and work closely with software engineers and machine learning scientists to drive implementation. You will establish product goals and review success metrics to achieve commercial success. You will own several multi-year projects to deliver improvements in payment fraud detection and prevention. You will be working closely with multiple business teams to understand challenges and opportunities as well as with highly talented Technology and Machine Learning teams to deliver next generation technologies.
We need owners who can scale in perspective from strategic vision development to tactical product development and deliver results. We value product managers who want to sit with developers and scientists to dig into the details as owners where we define, develop, and launch new services and features in periods measured in months. You should have the technical depth to learn and understand the core technologies used to execute risk analysis to drive solutions that are effective and scalable. The role requires a seasoned individual who has excellent experience as a Product Manager and comes from a similar highly technical risk management domain.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Product Strategy – Work with a wide range of stakeholders and leaders to define the long-term strategy for the Tools & Security product ecosystem which carefully incorporates the north star vision of the organization, the needs of your customers, and the ROI of your investments. You will have strong influence over ideas and approaches that are both within and outside of your direct area of responsibility.
Roadmap Prioritization – Define and drive an effective roadmap that achieves incremental value for your customers and the organization, while balancing resource, operational, and technical constraints. You will collaborate with product managers in both internal and external organizations to drive delivery of your roadmap.
Product Delivery: Lead projects for cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of new features, services, products, or systems. Gather business requirements, document functional and design specifications, identify appropriate resources needed, develop the milestones and launch schedules to ensure timely and successful delivery of the feature, measure and report on progress with leaders, and anticipate and resolve bottlenecks impacting your project. Drive a Zero-Defect culture by managing controllable root-cause defects and ensure implementation of controls to minimize losses.
Strong Collaboration – Establish strong partnerships with Engineering, ML, Product, Program, Operations, UX, Workforce Management, and Analytics stakeholders to drive results on roadmap priorities and strategic initiatives. Experience contributing to engineering and technology discussions and strategy related to a product.
Escalation Management – Work with Global Process Owners (GPO) and Customer Engagement (CE) Program Managers to support Executive Escalation deep dives and identify preventative actions that can minimize the CX impacts to Amazon customers.
Results & Accountability: Ensures that effective controls are developed and maintained across the organization. Takes corrective action, as appropriate. Commitment towards goals and outcomes and to ensure the completion within established timeframes. Drives and facilitates moderately complex projects; focuses on results and measuring attainment of outcomes.
Communication: Have an arsenal of different communication styles depending on who your stakeholders are. Own various written & verbal communication mechanisms between operations teams, program & product managers, software delivery engineers (SDE), machine learning scientists (ML), UX designers, and Amazon leadership teams.
The role may require up to 30% travel, including some international travel.
- 5+ years of product or program management, product marketing, business development or technology experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product
- Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
- Experience with end to end product delivery
- Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product
- Experience managing technical products or online services
- Experience in representing and advocating for a variety of critical customers and stakeholders during executive-level prioritization and planning
- • Experience with product management for highly complex and latency sensitive software and machine learning environments
- Experience in using analytical tools, such as Tableau, Qlikview, QuickSight

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
