Our designs are industry-leading in performance, frugality and operational excellence, and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the more than one million customers who use AWS today. Our Principal Engineers help establish technical standards and drive Amazon’s overall technical architecture, engineering practices, and engineering methodologies. The AWS Hardware Development team creates compute, storage, and edge-server designs that drive innovation across our web services. Principal Engineers are pragmatic visionaries who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Their expertise is deep and broad. They are hands on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs.
Ideal skill-sets include: Hardware Development, Thermal and Mechanical Design, Firmware and Embedded Systems, Quality and Reliability, Test, and Materials
• 10+ years of experience in server technologies, including: electrical, mechanical, thermal, and software.
• 8+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
• Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Materials Science or a related field
• Experience developing and operating hardware at scale

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $147,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $254,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
