Are you excited to prototype and launch customer-facing sustainability products? Do you have experience delivering data-driven sustainability solutions at scale? The AWS Infrastructure Sustainability Tech team is seeking a passionate, results-oriented Sr. Applied Scientist to contribute to the research, prototyping, and delivery of customer-facing sustainability products. The AWS Infrastructure Sustainability Tech organization builds solutions to integrate sustainability data across AWS infrastructure and operations and support AWS customer’s sustainability goals, AWS’ progress towards net zero carbon goal, renewable energy management, and other cross-cutting sustainability objectives. A successful candidate will have high influence across teams and sustainability stakeholders to make strategic trade-offs between short term opportunities and long term customer and industry trends.
You will partner with AWS service, infrastructure (data centers), and Sustainability stakeholders to build AWS Sustainability products and influence partner teams. The role requires excellent communication skills to drive consensus across stakeholders, as well as the ability to thrive in ambiguous problem spaces. You'll partner with various AWS teams to build sustainability products and influence strategic decisions. Key job responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative data and machine learning solutions to accelerate our business.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to design and implement software solutions for science problems
- Lead the early investigative / inception phase of strategic sustainability initiatives and effectively influence, negotiate, and communicate with stakeholders to enable hand off of those projects for implementation.

- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 5+ years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in applied research
- Experience in building machine learning models for business application
- Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.
- Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.
- Experience with conducting research in a corporate setting

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
