WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Satellite Network Engineer's duties include the design, documentation, implementation, maintenance, and support of our VSAT customer base. The right candidate is an independent problem solver with a strong, positive attitude. The ability to learn and implement new technologies is paramount. They will be a leader, not only for the other engineers on the team but also for the other work centers throughout the company. This position is part of a team responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, and highly available network architectures that meet external customer objectives and SLAs.
Major duties and responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain VSAT networks
- Interface directly with customers and vendors by being the company's focal point of contact for all support activities.
- Support, install, maintain, troubleshoot, and coordinate the usage of, but not limited to, LAN/WAN, security, UTM, VoIP, wireless, and VPN technologies for multiple customer networks.
- Assess customer environments and make recommendations based on needs
- Provide assessments, design deployment and implementation services of multi-vendor solutions, and maintain support methodologies for multiple large Energy customers
- Analyze and monitor customer and backhaul network workload, capacity, and performance
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
- Define and maintain backhaul network infrastructure utilizing multiple backbone technologies
- Provide engineering support for network design, upgrade, performance tuning, and monitoring
- Network incident and outage escalation
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem-resolution
- Implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team
- Create and maintain all required network documentation, including diagrams and troubleshooting methodologies, using the provided tools
- Participating in on-call duties
WHO YOU ARE
Key Qualifications
- 6+ years of networking experience in environments supporting multiple vendors and networking products
- Strong understanding of VSAT network and satellite technology
- Extensive knowledge of data communication analysis tools such as Wireshark, NetScout, Solarwinds, Cacti, etc.
- Well-versed with engineering and support of routers, switches, network security devices, and network management systems
- Deep understanding of networking protocols (DMVPN, IPSEC, BGP, MPLS, VRF, QoS, Spanning-Tree, OSPF, RIPv2, 802.11, QoS, ACLs, DHCP, TCP/IP, DNS)
- Proven ability to work under pressure and interface with senior management
- Proficient in computer operating systems, including Windows and Linux
- Proficient in the use of Visio, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
- CCNA certification or equivalent experience; Fortinet experience a plus
