WAN Network Administrator

Position Summary:
The WAN Network Administrator helps support the smooth functioning of hardware, software, peripherals, and other devices related to the company's network infrastructure. An incumbent designs and configures the company's telecommunication infrastructure. Tasks are multiple and varied and are performed within the scope of general company policies, procedures and objectives. Independent judgment is used in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired results. Exceptions to policy and procedures are referred to the supervisor. This position communicates frequently with peers, managers and executives throughout the organization.
This position is distinguished from the WAN Network Administrator Level I in that it provides second level tier 2 LAN/WAN/Telecom support as opposed to tier 1; the position is involved in the design of the telecommunications network infrastructure; and independently develops network policies, procedures and protocols. The incumbent may train others.
Qualifications:
Education:
• A High School diploma, GED or equivalent, with some post-secondary education
• CCNA certification
Experience:
• Five (5) years of network administration experience including work with Microsoft products including Windows 7, MS Office, MS Visio; Cisco IOS, Cisco CallManager, Cisco/Network routers, switches and gateways
• TCP/IP protocol, telecom circuits; firewall/security technologies
• VoIP solutions, Spanning Tree Protocol and VLAN trunking; or any equivalent combination of directly related education and experience
Preferred:
• Video solutions using SIP experience
• Wireless network configuration experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Expert knowledge of Cisco/Network routers, switches, gateways, TCP/IP protocol, LAN/WAN infrastructure and routing, EIGRP and BGP Protocols, VoIP, Video and Voice Compression Protocols (H.323, H.264, etc.), SIP, MPLS and other WAN communication protocols
• Expert knowledge of Solarwinds, and SCOM monitoring software, WAN analyzer software and packet analyzer software.
• Expert knowledge of Firewall and security technologies using VPN, NAC, LAN/WAN infrastructure and routing, Cisco switches, routers, gatekeepers and gateways.
• Knowledge of telecom circuits such as DS1, T1s and PRIs
• Knowledge of network troubleshooting techniques and protocols
• Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Internet Explorer (or other internet browser); Windows 7, MS Visio, Solarwinds, Cisco CallManager WAN analyzer software and packet analyzer software.

Additional Information:
• This position requires a moderate level of exertion and is required to lift, carry, push or pull 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently.
• This position continuously sits and fingers (keyboarding); frequently talks, hears, sees and operates controls with hands; and occasionally stands, walks, climbs stairs, feels (touch) and bends/stoops.

Responsibilities:
• Evaluate, design, analyze and maintain all transport and telecommunications systems for new and existing sites.
• Analyze symptoms for accurate isolation of customer and network problems.
• Help select, develop support, and implement network standards, processes and security to maintain corporate standards and industry best practices.
• Support installation of development and test infrastructure for internal department testing and research.
• Provide second level tier 2 LAN/WAN/Telecom support to troubleshoot end user connectivity problems of all complexity, often requiring in-depth examination and extensive research.
• Troubleshoot potential security issues to the supervisor.
• Build a positive and responsive rapport with management, employees and vendors.
• Receive and timely process or respond to verbal and written requests.
• Use MS Office applications such as Outlook, Word, and Explorer (or other internet browser); network monitoring software, MS Visio and packet analyzer software.
• Use standard office equipment such as telephones, computers, copiers and fax machines
