Job Summary:
Reporting to the assistant director of network services in the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS), the network analyst’s primary responsibilities involve the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the campus wired and wireless networks. The campus network infrastructure includes network routers, switches, wireless controllers, wireless access points, firewalls, telephones, and the supporting interconnected fiber and copper cable plants. The network analyst works with other teams in ITS as well as key stakeholders across the campus to determine the network technology needs of the College and provide highly reliable solutions. This position will be 100% on-site at the Colby College Campus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure the continuous monitoring and operation of the campus wired and wireless networks, various devices, circuits, capacity, and performance, and help with capacity planning
Manage service outages and necessary troubleshooting and repair in a timely manner
Participate in root cause analysis on incidents to prevent further incidents
Provide reliable solutions to network technology needs of the College
Configure and maintain network equipment and associated wiring and fiber as required to meet the needs of various campus functions and spaces, buildings, and data centers
Configure and maintain the campus wireless network system, including controllers and access points
Maintain and update network inventory, planning for continuous upgrade/refresh and expansion
Assist in end-to-end and client-server network service initiatives, serving as a technical resource for network provisioning, configuration, and operation for various campus services
Monitor, diagnose and maintain campus network operations
Maintain and update network standards, providing network technology advice and expertise during planning and renovation/construction of campus facilities
Ensure that the security of all network components is maintained, assisting in related information security initiatives as required
Configure and support layer 3 IPv4 routing on campus and for Internet peering
Serve as a technical resource for network related projects and problems, providing technical insight and troubleshooting as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience is required
Three - five years of experience in network administration; experience at an institution of higher education preferred
Knowledge of TCP/IP and Ethernet/VLAN networking is required. Demonstrated experience with network routing and switching technologies; experience in an established enterprise environment is preferred.
Demonstrated experience with wireless network technology; experience with enterprise wireless is preferred
Familiarity with Juniper network routers and switches and/or HPE/Aruba enterprise wireless is a plus.
Network certification in Juniper JNCIA-Junos/JNCIA-ENT or Cisco CCNA/CCNP is preferred but not required.
Familiarity with fiber optic and category 6+ cabling and related telecommunications plant infrastructure with an emphasis on industry best practices
Understanding of network security as it relates to the protection of network assets through network architecture, configuration, and related technologies
Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously; coordinating resources, ensuring scheduled goals are met, and communicating status to stakeholders
Strong troubleshooting skills including research and analytical abilities
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with a high level of motivation and initiative
Attention to detail and accuracy are critical
Effective oral communication skills in various contexts with a commitment to team participation, information sharing and mutual/shared support
Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community
LOCATION:
This position will be 100% on-site at the Colby College Campus at 4000 Mayflower Hill Dr, Waterville, ME 04901.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
This position has frequent and direct contact with ITS peers and colleagues, administrative and academic personnel, and third parties such as vendor and consulting contacts.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Lifting (up to 50 pounds) and installing network equipment in server/telecommunications racks is occasionally required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
