Senior Systems Administrator *This is a hybrid position. Candidates are required to be in office at least 2 days a week and must live within a 100-mile radius of our home office in Chicago/ O'Hare, IL
Your Purpose:
The Senior Systems Administrator manages and supports the core technology infrastructure of the organization (on-premise and cloud), including a variety of critical business systems. Partnering with the Information Technology Manager, the organization’s managed service provider, and respective stakeholders, this person will ensure the core technology infrastructure meets the needs of the organization and is aligned with the SOA’s strategic technology goals and priorities. This position is responsible for ensuring these core technology services are reliable and well supported. This position requires 24-hour on-call support based on a rotating schedule.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage on-premise and cloud network infrastructure (30%)
- Manage switches, firewalls, and wireless networks
- Administer DNS and email reputation controls (DMARC, SPF, DKIM)
- Handle VPN and servers (physical and virtual)
- Lead Active Directory for directory services
- Ensure software updates, patch management, and license compliance
- Implement power management and environmental controls (UPS)
- Manage, support & perform system administration on key critical business systems (30%)
- Administer Office 365, Azure AD, and AWS infrastructure
- Manage Email defense system
- Manage, coordinate and execute aspects of the organization’s IT business continuity plans (10%)
- Conduct annual disaster recovery planning and testing
- Ensure regular successful backup of critical data and systems
- Perform quarterly tests for data restoration from backups
- Monitor and secure physical facilities, particularly the data center
- Maintain environmental conditions in the data center according to standards
- Manage and support key elements of the organization’s IT security controls (10%)
- Manage endpoint protection, patch management, email defense, and multi-factor-authentication (MFA) systems
- Ensure secure hardening of network, servers, and workstations
- Conduct security scanning for compliance (e.g., PCI Compliance, PII data)
- Manage all aspects of the organization’s telecommunications infrastructure (10%)

- Working with the appropriate vendors, perform aspects of the IT procurement and asset management process (5%)
- Maintain inventory of essential IT components to minimize turnaround time for replacements and additions
- Process, document, and approve vendor invoices within specified limits
- Manage, track, and audit the organization’s software licenses
- Perform day-to-day Help Desk support, as needed (5%)
- Answer Help Desk phone, monitor mailbox, process/resolve support requests
- Coordinate end user training, perform administrative functions on various platforms
- Research, evaluate, and recommend vendors and products within established priorities
- Collaborate with IT Manager to review and recommend technology use policies
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum ten (10) years in Information Technology with a minimum five (5) years of hands-on experience in management of local networks, telecommunication systems, and security.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft platforms, including Windows 10/11, Server 2016/2019/2022.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Azure Administration in a Hybrid environment.
- Expertise in Active Directory Services (GPO, LDAP, DNS, DHCP, Certificates).
- Experience with managing virtual private cloud(s) in Amazon Cloud Web Services (AWS)
- Experience with VMWare (ESXi, vCenter, and VxRail).
- Proficiency with managing firewalls and VPN. Experience with Fortinet is a plus.
- Knowledge of administering email defense system(s). Experience with Proofpoint is a plus.
- Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
