DescriptionSystem Engineer IV
As a System Engineer IV, you'll play a key role in configuring, operating, and maintaining Linux systems for scientists and developers. You'll work independently, use your expert judgment, and collaborate with your team to provide technical leadership for various IT projects.
Compensation & Benefits:
Estimated Starting Salary Range for System Engineer IV: $105,000 to $115,000.
Pay commensurate with experience.
Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.
System Engineer IV Responsibilities Include:
- Plan, implement, and document complex IT solutions.
- Optimize overall system performance and conduct system performance analysis.
- Manage Linux system installation, upgrading, and peripheral device configuration.
- Implement Linux security strategies and third-party software installation.
- Configure automounters, license managers, and inter-process communication.
- Manage AWS services, including EC2, S3, and AppStream.
- Manage firewall systems and ensure their effectiveness.
- Provide developer support (Python, Apache, Nginx, etc.).
- Analyze and optimize filesystem and I/O performance, including NFS and journaled file systems.
- Perform system tuning, documentation, and diagnostics.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
System Engineer IV Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience as a System Engineer in complex Linux environments.
- Proficiency in RedHat Linux, Windows, and macOS X administration.
- Expertise in DNS, NIS, NFS, TCP/IP, routing concepts, and X Window-based applications.
- Strong scripting skills and experience supporting user communities in virtual servers and cloud services.
- Excellent communication, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities preferred.
- Knowledge of mass storage systems, network-attached storage, and RAID.
- Familiarity with NFS appliances and database administration preferred (Postgres/MySQL, NoSQL databases like Couchbase).
- Knowledge of networking, container management, CI/CD, and VM hypervisor management preferred.
- Knowledge of SaltStack for configuration management preferred.
- Familiarity with AWIPS, CAVE, EDEX, and Pandora FMS preferred.
- Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
