Job Summary
The Network Administrator role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked operating systems and network connections. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software and communication links. The Network Administrator will assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data center, servers and network. This person will also apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and quickly resolve issues affecting IT system performance.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Configure, deploy and maintain all switches, routers and SANs. This includes DNS, DHCP, Firewalls, and Internet Proxies.
- Familiarity with network Layer 2 and 3 switching and routing theory, operating systems and protocols such as 802.1Q, QoS, and VLAN tagging, subnetting, and routing.
- Resolve patch level issues between switch OS or any issue that may negatively affect the functionality or performance of the network infrastructure devices.
- Installs and tests all new subnet / WAN / LAN / Wireless equipment and upgrades, prior to putting into production.
- Monitor and install Access Control and Video Surveillance devices and systems.
- Monitor network health and respond to alerts generated by the network performance monitor to ensure system performance of all servers, switches, routers, services, and applications.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and equipment lifecycle.
- Keeps detailed records of all installs, repairs, modifications, and upgrades.
- Maintains equipment license and support agreements.
- Perform Tier 2 support on network cabling and connectivity issues.
- Requires an in-depth working knowledge of Network Security and applies policy based on Cirrus Information Security standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products such as MS Server and Desktop OS, and Active Directory.
- Collaborate with IS staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Perform network security audits, network system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
- Conduct research on systems and products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
- Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services.
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field preferred
- 2+ years IT experience required
- MCSE, Network+, CCNA, or CCNP certification a plus
- Demonstrated experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of voice, video and data related network hardware.
- Familiarity with switching, operating systems, and protocols.
- Familiarity with firewall policies and rulesets, IP ports and protocols, and network subnetting.
- Familiarity with modern Wi-Fi standards and the wireless spectrum.
- Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general system management best practices.
- Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Microsoft Server and Workstation OS, Linux OS, and Internet protocol ports and functions.
- Prior experience with packet analyzers and troubleshooting at the packet level.
- Good project management skills.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
- Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Proven analytical and creative problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
