Smith is searching for a cloud-native expert to help lead the design and implementation of a new-generation scalable eCommerce platform for a key client. As a Technical Architect (TA) and a key hire in our composable commerce practice, you’ll not only play a lead role in this project—you’ll be a cloud-native pioneer, helping to build out and grow the team and function.
As a TA at Smith, you’ll be counted on to do a few things. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams and clients’ technical teams to develop and implement features and enhancements that enable end-to-end integration of our clients’ eCommerce offerings. You’ll be a technical thought leader, a cloud development best-practice authority within the organization. But you’ll also be a team player with exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills. You’ll manage a development team and take the initiative to mentor our talented, hungry junior Developers.

What You’ll Do
- Leverage cloud-native architecture patterns to document detailed technical specifications for assigned components and integrations.
- Work with Solution Architects, Project Managers, and other Developers to estimate the level of effort required to implement assigned work packages.
- Develop, customize, and debug API-first services and extensions, conforming to best practices and Smith development standards, using NodeJS, Typescript and related technologies.
- Lead development team scrum sessions.
- Conduct code reviews for the development team.
- Create canonical data models and mappings necessary for transport across a digital enterprise, including products, catalogs, customers, orders, and more.
- Manipulate raw product, inventory, or customer data (database, XML, XLS, CSV, JSON, etc.) into formats suitable for loading into various data stores – such as NoSQL databases, relational databases, or API-first third-party systems.
- Provide status reports and escalate issues as appropriate to the Project Manager and Solution Architect.
- Deliver high-quality serverless functions to augment third-party systems via webhooks, event producers / consumers, and workflows.
- Lead, coach, and mentor team members.
What You Bring
- 5+ years’ experience with NodeJS, Typescript, & JavaScript
- 3+ years’ experience developing event-driven serverless functions and/or microservices
- 4+ years’ experience Integrating with third-party RESTful APIs leveraging common authentication protocols, such as OAuth 2.0
- Acted as the platform architect/development lead of at least one cloud-based enterprise project
- Understanding of cloud hyperscalers and typical PaaS offerings. Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) certified would be a plus.
- Working knowledge of NoSQL and relational databases, such as MongoDB and PostgreSQL
- Experience with composable commerce vendors, such as commercetools, Contentful, Coveo, etc., is preferred but not required
- Demonstrated exceptional client service orientation
- Experience working with offshore teams is a plus.
- The desire and skills to mentor junior colleagues and interact closely and constructively with other senior technical resources
