Job Summary:
We’re seeking a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer in our Cloud Platform Department to provide mission critical large-scale cloud services for our various Rakuten businesses. Our department manages production cloud infrastructure and services across several data centers and public clouds worldwide. The team is globally distributed and you’ll have the opportunity to work with colleagues across many regions. Your responsibilities will include contributing to a wide range of projects and initiatives including automation, hybrid multi cloud services, data centers, hardware and software life cycle management, and monitoring telemetry and site reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversees the design, build out, maintenance, and refresh of cloud infrastructure systems, platforms, and networks to enable application deployments.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure the success of cloud infrastructure operations, implementations, and infrastructure automation strategies throughout the organization.
- Constructs continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for application deployments and configures cloud services to meet the current business needs of stakeholders.
- Confers with development and architecture teams in an engineering capacity to support and improve efficiency and reduce errors.
- Forecasts cloud system and development trends within the industry and researches infrastructure technologies to provide insight into the provision of scalable production operations.
- Coaches more junior colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities.
- Contributes code for automation: Configuration Management, CI/CD, Jenkins, leveraging Git workflows
- Runs the build out and refresh of hybrid cloud platforms and infrastructure, including data center, network computing and storage
- Leads projects and initiatives within technical and organizational scope and serves as the main point of contact for team members
- Documents solutions to routine problems, challenges status quo and creates initiatives for improving our cloud infrastructure technology stack and Tier 2 operational support
- Leverages industry knowledge, various analysis, and performance tools
- Participates in a 24x7 globally distributed on-call rotation
Qualifications:

- Excellent knowledge of Linux operating systems
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP and OSI model
- Experience automating cloud infrastructure using (3) of the following options: Chef, Ansible, Vagrant, Terraform, Jenkins, Python
- Experience with public cloud computing and networking: AWS, Azure, GCP
- Experience with data center infrastructure, such chassis based and standalone servers, storage, and network cabling and transceivers
- Experience with monitoring & telemetry tools, systems, metrics, dashboards such as Nagios, ELK, Grafana
- Experience with virtualization, containers, and orchestrators in (2) of the following options: KVM, Docker, OpenStack, k8s, Nomad
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field or equivalent experience required
- 5+ years’ experience managing infrastructure (Cloud, Linux)
- 2+ years’ experience with automation, coding or scripting
- 1 Linux or Cloud certification

Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for discretionary bonus, health, vision, dental insurance, 401k matching, PTO, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.
