Position Summary:
The Lead Cloud Engineer will be responsible for the design and execution of successful architecture for a large data warehouse, and will work closely with the business, product team and the technical staff to ensure alignment to goals and objectives. Top-tier cloud platforms will be utilized, and this role has the ability to influence platform decisions and capability acquisitions. At this time, candidates who would work in the following states will not be considered for this role: VT, RI, NY, NJ, NH, MI, ME, MA, DE, CO, CT, CA, and AZ.
Essential Functions:
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Azure technologies. Implement and manage Azure SQL and NoSQL databases, with familiarity with Azure Synapse and Spark preferred.
- Work closely with business, product, and technology teams to develop platform vision, strategy, and roadmap as well as ensure alignment of vision to business objectives.
- Design and optimize the data model used by the applications using a combination of 3NF and denormalized structure.
- Balance the use of ELT and ETL workloads with API integrations to retrieve data in near real-time across high volume datasets, leveraging a variety of Azure technologies.
- Deploy and manage cloud infrastructure using Azure services while implementing best practices for cloud security, compliance, and cost management. Implement and manage RBAC (role-based access control) and ABAC (attribute-based access control) policies using Microsoft Entra.
- Assist in architecture, design and development of API development, building and integrating API’s to connect with custom applications.
- Leveraging Github as a source control provider, own and provide technical direction around the organizations CICD policies, using Github Actions and YML to achieve frequent & consistent production deployments.
- Collaborate with business and technology leadership on the future goals of the organization and design a technical architecture to meet those goals. Participate in configuring the architecture, and advise other stakeholders, both internal and external, on its efficient use.
- Lead and mentor a team of cloud data engineers while collaborating with the cross-functional teams to deliver high quality solutions. Stay updated of the latest Azure technologies and industry trends, recommending internal and external trainings to foster a growth mindset culture.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Strong experience with designing, developing, and maintaining backend services using Azure technologies, including Azure Synapse or Azure SQL
- Strong experience with Microsoft Entra management, including managing RBAC policies, creating app registrations/identities, and group management
- Strong experience with DevOps and CI/CD best practices leveraging YML, preferably using Github
- Proven experience balancing ETL frameworks to ingest large volumes of data in near real time
- Experience with architecture, design, and development of middleware API’s to connect with custom applications
- Proven experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions
- Strong knowledge of software development lifecycles and middleware applications
- Experience using agile frameworks for software delivery
- Familiarity with front end applications running on Laravel or Django preferred
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in related discipline or combination of equivalent education and experience.
- 7 - 10 years of experience in similar field.
- Experience in data modeling, solution design, and application development.
