This is an exciting opportunity in Indianapolis, IN for a Corporate Counsel – Global Purchasing!

As Corporate Counsel – Global Purchasing, you will be the lead attorney for Allison’s Global Purchasing and Supplier Quality functions, focusing on all aspects of vendor relationships and supply chain including legal risks, business strategies, and other issues related to commercial contracting, licensing, subcontracts, strategic sourcing, and outsourcing transactions and agreements.
In this role, you will be required to apply your business insight, as much as your legal knowledge, in collaborating with business leadership and functional organizations to meet business objectives.
Essential Functions:
- Provide legal leadership and support to Allison’s Global Purchasing and Supplier Quality functions.
- Advise Purchasing organization throughout all phases of negotiations with Allison’s suppliers.
- As needed, support Allison’s supplier compliance activities on a variety of matters, including cybersecurity, conflicts of interest, ethics, domestic preference regulations, country-of-origin compliance, export control, and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
- In collaboration with the Corporate Counsel – Intellectual Property, review and advise on intellectual property matters affecting product development, contract negotiation, and other business issues.
- Participate in reviewing, interpreting, and drafting various company policies and procedures, including responsibility for developing new or enhancing existing contract templates, guidelines, policies, and training materials in support of the Legal team's efforts to proactively support all aspects of the company’s business objectives.
- Assist with analysis and advice regarding pre-litigation matters falling within the scope of the role.
- Assist in the preparation of various legal training courses for the Purchasing and Supplier Quality functions.
- Ensure appropriate internal reporting within the Legal team, and respective business partners, exercising good judgment on what is material to the audience.
- Supports the business with a variety of commercial transactions as needed, including M&A efforts and integration.
- Manage external legal support as required.
- Adapt easily to new circumstances.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience providing legal support to a global purchasing organization, preferably in the manufacturing field
- Well-developed legal, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt, taking on new roles and comfort learning new areas of the law
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with ability to communicate information effectively to non-lawyers at all levels of a business
- Highly motivated self-starter
- Detail oriented
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders
- Able to exercise initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives and elevate matters to Legal leadership at appropriate time
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house setting.
- Possess a Juris Doctor Degree
- Active license to practice law in at least one state with no pending discipline or complaints and the ability to obtain a license to practice law in Indiana
