Primary Purpose Of Position
The IT Network Administrator (Administrator) ensures the stable, secure, and efficient operation of the university’s network. The Administrator manages network devices, ensures equipment complies with configuration and security standards, troubleshoots, and resolves network and endpoint issues, and assists with upgrades, monitoring, and incident response. The Administrator supports the campus wired and wireless networks as well as remote connections and networks. The Administrator reports to the Director of Network and System Administration and is an important member of the Information Technology Services ( ITS ) technical team. This is an entry level position that works with other members of the networking team and under the guidance of the director and senior technical staff. The Administrator works with others to ensure a high level of service to faculty, staff, and students, and a high level of performance and security from the university’s network.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Ability to install and configure network switches, routers, and access points. Ability to monitor network traffic and devices. Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve performance and configuration issues. Knowledge of fundamental network services such as DHCP , DNS , and NTP . Ability to implement basic cybersecurity controls and assist in incident response. Ability to identify and resolve network issues related to end user devices. Strong customer service orientation and ability to partner with other units and foster a team spirit. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse community. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Two years’ experience related to the duties of the position. Experience with Extreme Networks switches, routers and access points, and Extreme Networks management systems. Experience managing Palo Alto firewalls. Experience troubleshooting and resolving DHCP , DNS , and NTP issues. Knowledge of network routing protocols. Experience with cybersecurity controls and incident response. Experience identifying and resolving network issues related to end user devices. Ability to train end user device support staff.
