Primary Purpose Of Position
The Microsoft 365 (M365) Administrator (Administrator) manages and supports the university’s Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace environments. The Administrator monitors the environments, addresses issues as they arise, provides technical support to other ITS staff and end users, and assists with identity management and incident response. This position also manages additional secure M365 tenants with significant cybersecurity controls designed to comply with federal requirements such as the NIST SP 800-171, Protecting Controlled Unclassified Information in Nonfederal Systems and Organizations, standard. The Administrator reports to the Director of Network and System Administration and is an important member of the Information Technology Services ( ITS ) technical team. This is an entry level position that works with other members of the system administration team and under the guidance of the director and senior technical staff. The Administrator works with others to ensure a high level of service to faculty, staff, and students, and responds to cybersecurity incidents.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Ability to manage Microsoft 365 cloud environments. Ability to perform basic identity and account management tasks. Ability to identify and address malicious email such as phishing, spam, and malware distribution. Ability to implement basic cybersecurity controls and assist in incident response. Ability to identify and resolve network issues related to end user devices. Strong customer service orientation and ability to partner with other units and foster a team spirit. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse community. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Two years’ experience related to the duties of the position. Experience with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace environments. Knowledge of ISO 27002 and NIST SP 800-171 security controls. Experience with Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Defender, and other tools such as AD Manager, AD Audit Plus, Microsoft Sentinel, Security Onion, and CrowdStrike. Experience with basic SMTP server management. Experience managing Windows endpoints. Ability to train end user device support staff.
