Job Purpose
National Grid IT team is currently seeking an innovative, adaptable, highly skilled, and results-driven individual for a Lead Software Engineer role that will provide the business knowledge and technical expertise to implement strategies, evaluate products, and build upon an infrastructure that supports the ever-changing needs of our customers. In addition, the individual will lead 2-3 teams of technical professionals consisting of internal and external partner resources in the development and delivery of robust, secure, and scalable solutions that exceed user needs and improve business performance. This leader will report to the Manager Solutions Engineering within the National Grid IT organization.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide technical direction for the design, development, and systems integration from definition phase through implementation & support.
- Ensure system, technical & product architecture is compliant with and adheres to all National Grid operational, architectural, and design standards and principles.
- Review proposals for technology systems. Easily recognizes system deficiencies and implements effective solutions.
- Apply knowledge of industry trends and developments to improve solution/service delivery for internal and external stakeholders.
- Understand complex technology concepts and effectively employs different solutions as are appropriate to the engagement.
- Own technology oversight and is responsible for managing technical risks throughout various projects.
- Create Delivery strategy and detailed Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for SDLC activities.
- Drive estimation (Cost and timeline) for delivery.
- Execute technical plans and ensures the timely completion of project deliverables.
- Manage technical resources within budget and project schedules.
- Ensure source code control and code reviews.
- Identify project risks and plans/implement mitigation actions.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or similar field; or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of Software Development Lifecycle Management, Application Lifecycle Management, DevOps processes/tools and techniques with 3+ years of technical leadership.
- Experience with Agile (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe etc.) and Waterfall software development methodologies.
- Experience in COTS (Commercial off the Shelf) product, vendor evaluation and technology rollout (product configuration, integration and maintenance).
- Knowledge of n tier / web-based systems architecture & technologies (.NET, J2EE, React, Node.JS, IIS, WebSphere, WebLogic etc.)
- Knowledge of various deployment and hosting environments and platforms (On Premise, Cloud, SaaS/PaaS/IaaS, MS Azure, and AWS).
- Knowledge of Linux, AIX, Windows OS.
- Knowledge of Middleware/Integration technologies (MQ, Oracle Fusion, Mulesoft, REST, JSON & MFT etc.).
- Knowledge of database design and database management systems (DB2, SQL Server, Oracle etc.).
- Knowledge of Identity and Access Management, Active Directory, Azure AD, SSO, SAML.
- Understanding of Cyber Security to ensure compliance for CEII, NERC-CIP Standards and other Cyber Security frameworks (NIST, etc.)
- Understanding of Networking/Security concepts and design practices including ESP (Electronic Security Parameter), Splunk.
