BASIC PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
The Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible to design, develop, and maintain industrial-grade applications for embedded automation application systems within off-highway machinery. The Embedded Engineer will collaborate with a cross-functional team to develop off-highway vehicle automation and telemetry solutions.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES: This position does the following in accordance with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws / regulations and the Company’s policies, procedures, and guidelines:
- Work with a cross-functional team to design, test, and develop software components written in C++ on a proprietary hardware platform running a scheduler, real-time operating system, Linux, or ROS2.
- Work with stakeholders to define and develop automation software for off-road vehicles.
- Design and maintain vehicle simulations used for performance analyses and functional safety validation.
- Design and develop machine learning algorithms to support off-road automation.
- Ability to bring up and debug new hardware platforms.
- Generate all documentation relevant to software operation.
- Work with System Verification and Validation in field testing new systems and algorithms.
- Generate rapid prototypes for feasibility testing.
- Communicate effectively with customers on technical or sensitive issues.
- Provide on-site customer support when required (only on very sensitive or urgent issues).
- Other related duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or a related field required.
- At least five years of experience programming in C++, C and Python required.
- At least five years embedded microprocessor experience, ARM preferred.
- Experience managing container and container orchestration technologies, such as Docker preferred.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases preferred.
- Fluency in Linux development environments.
- Experience performing vehicle dynamics simulations preferred.
- Knowledge of GIS or mapping integration is preferred.
- Experience with computer vision and/or video processing is preferred.
- Willingness to travel 20%.
