Position Summary
The Digital Engagement Platform group within ITS Learning Technology & Client Services, is charged with responsibility for the platforms that support online engagement across students, employees, and the broader community. This includes platforms that underpin our mobile and website hosting services as well as our service management platform, ServiceNow. Platforms for digital engagement are central to the experience of our constituents and the identity of the University. Our goals include: making these points of interaction more visible (increase engagement); making the platforms that provide these interactions easier to use for communicators (increase productivity); building these platforms in a consistent way that gives users the best-possible overall experience (increase quality) and, engineering these services so that they are cost-effective and sustainable (increase efficiency). This position develops advanced web-based applications and integrations that support digital campus enterprise services. This includes the development of websites, tools, and applications supported by the Digital Engagement Platforms group. While the Web Software Engineer ensures the success of many applications and application integrations, the primary focus of this role is on WordPress, the content management platform for the University. The position will contribute to the development and maintenance of UNCG -developed WordPress templates, blocks, plugins, and widgets. In addition, the Web Software Engineer provides advanced support for departments, their web communications staff, and their vendors as needed and shares knowledge through outreach and education about development best practices and the use of supported web technologies. The position will also help create and maintain web applications and REST service endpoints built in ASP .net.
Minimum Qualifications
Mid-to late-career with Masters and 2-4 yrs experience or Bachelors and 3-5 yrs experience or equivalent combination of education/experience
Preferred Qualifications
7 years of experience developing web-based software using SQL , PHP , JavaScript, HTML , and advanced CSS . Experience developing and consuming REST -based web services. Experience working with ASP .net Core. Experience working with React. Familiarity with the SDLC , common development, build and source control management tools such as Azure Pipelines, Gulp, Grunt, and GIT . Experience with Waterfall and Agile development methodologies Experience with common software development patterns and frameworks Extensive experience developing solutions with WordPress, including theme development, plugin development, and Gutenberg block development. Ability to work with end users and technical staff to determine requirements and deliver effective solutions.
