Job Summary:
The Network Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and supporting an organization's networking infrastructure. This includes local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), wireless networks, and other communication systems. The role requires expertise in network architecture, security protocols, hardware/software configuration, troubleshooting, and ensuring optimal network performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Design & Implementation:
- Design, plan, and implement new network infrastructures and upgrades.
- Configure routers, switches, firewalls, and other network hardware.
- Set up network communication protocols and security systems.
- Ensure the network architecture aligns with the organization’s goals and operational requirements.
Network Monitoring & Performance Management:
- Continuously monitor the network for performance issues, errors, and faults.
- Use network management tools to identify and troubleshoot network problems.
- Analyze network traffic and optimize network performance.
- Perform regular network assessments and audits to ensure security and performance standards.
Troubleshooting & Support:
- Diagnose and resolve network issues, both hardware and software related.
- Provide second- and third-line support for network-related incidents.
- Respond promptly to network outages and disruptions, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Document issues and solutions to build a knowledge base.
Security & Compliance:
- Implement and manage network security measures (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS).
- Ensure networks meet security policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and audits to protect the network from cyber threats.
- Implement data encryption and access controls as part of a comprehensive security strategy.
Collaboration & Documentation:
- Collaborate with other IT teams (such as system administrators, security teams) to ensure seamless integration of network solutions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, network maps, and any network-related procedures.
- Provide training and guidance to other staff members on network best practices.
Upgrades & Maintenance:
- Plan and execute regular updates and patches for network hardware and software.
- Ensure all network devices are regularly maintained and supported.
- Manage network lifecycle, including replacing outdated equipment.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, etc.).
- Experience with network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) and protocols (BGP, OSPF, etc.).
- Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting networking equipment from vendors like Cisco, Juniper and Meraki.
- Experience with network security tools and technologies (e.g., firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS).
- Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds, Nagios).
- Knowledge of wireless networking (Wi-Fi) and network troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with cloud-based network services (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
- CCNA, CCNP, or other industry certifications are a plus.

Work Environment:
- Position is on-site and requires up to 50% travel
