Auria is actively seeking a
Technical Writer in
Colorado Springs, CO to support the Sentinel (Ground Based Strategic Deterrent - GBSD) Program.
Role
In this role, the candidate will collaborate with software engineers, system engineers, product managers, and other key stakeholders to produce clear, accurate, and concise technical documentation. They will translate complex technical concepts into user-friendly materials that can be understood by both technical and non-technical audiences. Acts as the subject matter expert for critical program document management processes and systems. Provides unique expertise in a recognized technical or programmatic role related to system acquisition, system engineering, specialty engineering, software engineering, information technology, information assurance, DevSecOps, or support disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and maintenance of program relevant documentation:
- Provides subject matter expertise in the development and delivery of technical documentation to include but not limited to software development plans, software design, system requirements, system interface design, and technical manuals
- Informs the documentation development and delivery process i.e., standard operating procedures, workflows, and quality control processes
- Team Collaboration:
- Collaborates with software and systems engineers, product owners, UI/UX designers, developers, system architects, and other key stakeholders to understand the software features and interfaces
- Participates in development and design working groups to capture all required information for document development
- Ensures consistency in all written materials across multiple software development teams and functional groups
- Complex Concept Translation:
- Translates complex technical concepts in simple, clear, and concise content for end-users, developers, and internal teams
- Develops content for various audiences to include non-technical users, technical users, and developers
- Edit and Review Content:
- Reviews, edits/revises, and proofreads documentation created by other teams or external contributors to ensure technical accuracy, style consistency, and correct grammar
- Updates and revises documentation to align with new software releases and changes (on an as needed basis)
- Manage and Advise Usage of Documentation Tools
- Manages a variety of document management and publishing tools such as Microsoft Office applications to include add-ons like PerfectIt, WordRake, etc.; Confluence, Jira, Cameo, DOORS, SharePoint, etc., or other content management systems to publish and maintain documentation
- Ensures that all documentation is organized and easily accessible by the relevant audiences
- Assist in API and SDK Documentation Development:
- Works closely with engineers to develop high quality API and SDK documentation to include code samples, tutorials, and usage instructions
- Ensures that all documentation aligns with best practices for API design and feasibility
- User and Developer Training Materials:
- Creates Training materials, how-to guides/instructional content, and tutorials to assist user and developers in understanding and utilizing the software/products
- Updates/Revises existing training materials to reflect the most current/relevant information
- Assists in developing onboarding documentation for new users and developers
- Maintain Consistency and Quality:
- Ensures that all documentation adheres to the program's documentation standards, voice, and style guide
- Maintains consistency in the terminology, formatting, and layout across various types of documentation
- Communicates directly with CM/DM for general documentation guidance; receives status updates on deliverables and any changes to existing documentation standards as applicable
- Provide Customer and User Support:
- Assumes role as a primary point of contact for internal and external documentation inquiries; helps users and developers resolve issues through effective communication
- Maintains good situational awareness of documentation procedures and processes; communicates updates to users and developers as needed
- Provide Input for Documentation Process and Development:
- Identifies key issues with existing documentation processes; lays out the issues, impacts and possible solutions
- Informs key stakeholders of the document development processes; provides input for information collection methods, critical information requirements, delivery method and adherence to document delivery schedules IAW the program IMS
- Informs key stakeholder of the documentation requirements outlined in the DID IAW required CDRL/SDRL and SOW
Requirements
- Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or other Engineering or Science degree is required. Four (4) years of technical or industry experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree
- Experience
- Five (5) Years' experience in a technical or engineering field. Recognized as a technical expert in that same field, with responsibilities including technical writing. Three (3) years of experience must be within the DoD Community
- Skills
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Familiarity with software development processes and concepts to include the Scaled Agile methodology
- Familiarity with tools such as Markdown, GitHub, Confluence, Jira and other document and content management tools
- Ability to understand and document APIs, SDKs, and complex software systems
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Security Clearance
- US Citizen with an active Secret DoD security clearance, current and within scope, and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools (e.g. Cameo) and methodologies
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, C++, etc
- Experience creating multimedia documentation (e.g., diagrams, visual tutorials, etc.)
Salary Range
The salary offered will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications (skills, education & experience) and the position level ($115,000 - $175,000).
