Overview
As a Database Administrator, your role is vital in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of the organization's databases. You will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical databases. Your expertise will be crucial in optimizing the database environment, ensuring data integrity, and safeguarding the organization's data assets.
Key responsibilities
- Install, configure, upgrade, and manage database servers
- Monitor and optimize database performance
- Manage and maintain database security and access controls
- Develop and maintain backup and recovery plans
- Troubleshoot database issues and performance bottlenecks
- Ensure data integrity and consistency
- Collaborate with application developers for database design and optimization
- Perform data modeling and implement database schema changes
- Create and maintain documentation of database configurations and processes
- Implement and maintain database automation and scripting
- Plan and execute database capacity and scalability requirements
- Conduct regular database health checks and proactive maintenance
- Manage database software updates and patches
- Provide technical support and guidance to database users
- Participate in on-call support and incident resolution
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator or similar role
- Solid understanding of database management systems (DBMS)
- Proficiency in SQL and database query optimization
- Experience with database security and data protection
- Knowledge of backup and recovery procedures
- Familiarity with performance tuning and capacity planning
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Scripting skills for automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python)
- Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate are a plus
- Experience with cloud-based databases (e.g., AWS, Azure) is advantageous
- Understanding of database compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)
- Adaptability to learn and implement new database technologies
