SSI is seeking a
Satellite Flight Software Engineer to fill a SETA (Scientific, Engineering, and Technical Assistance) position with the Space Development Agency (SDA). The Satellite Flight Software SME will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, integration, and testing of the flight software systems of the individual spacecraft vendors, including the software for the bus and payloads. The SME will work side-by-side with the spacecraft vendors, as required, to aid in their development processes and resolve flight software concerns. This position is located in Chantilly, VA, although remote and/or hybrid arrangements may be possible, with a preference for locations in Chantilly, VA.
Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:
- Overseeing the development of the spacecraft vendor flight software systems for bus and payloads
- Creating and understanding use cases to be used in the development of the flight software
- Working hands-on with the spacecraft vendors to ensure their flight software is successfully developed
- Evaluating the verification evidence provided by the spacecraft vendors for compliance with requirements
- Participating in the spacecraft contractor’s agile development process of their flight software
- Assisting SDA test teams to ensure that the flight software systems are sufficiently tested
- Delivering reports on spacecraft vendor progress to SDA leadership
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineer, systems engineering, physics, or a closely related field from an accredited university
- Domain knowledge of satellite software systems, such as guidance, navigation, control, networking, power management, and flight computers
- Expertise in software operating on space vehicles and associated flight hardware
- Experience working in Agile development environments
- Experience creating software use cases using systems engineering best practices
- Ability to rapidly come up to speed on complicated software and requirements
- Experience writing and executing flight software test plans
- Demonstrated understanding of satellite operations and constraints
- Experience working in DoD or Intelligence community programs
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Active Secret Clearance.
- TS/SCI Eligibility.
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineer, systems engineering, physics, or a closely related field from an accredited university
- Experience working with commercial and/or Government satellite systems
- Ten (10) years DoD/IC, or relevant industry hands-on work experience
- Software development experience in a modern programming language
- Experience with cloud development environments and tools
- Experience working with DevSecOps best practices and pipelines
- Familiarity with cybersecurity requirements and RMF practices
- Active Top Secret Clearance
