Network Engineer
Overview: We are a growing medical device company with $10 million in annual revenue and a Business Systems and IT Team of 20. Our Client is currently transitioning from dependence on 3rd Party managed network service providers to managing their own network infrastructure independently. The Network Engineer will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and managing our network systems to ensure secure, efficient, and reliable communication and data exchange across the company. This role will be responsible for maintaining high availability and performance for all network-related technologies, including LAN, WAN, VPNs, firewalls, and cloud-based solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and manage the company's network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other network appliances.
- Oversee the transition from a managed services provider to an in-house network management structure, ensuring minimal disruption and a smooth transition.
- Configure, monitor, and maintain secure network connections, including LAN, WAN, and VPNs to support both on-premises and remote workers.
- Manage network security, including firewall configurations, intrusion detection, and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and ensure compliance with relevant healthcare and industry regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
- Ensure optimal network performance by monitoring traffic, troubleshooting issues, and performing regular network audits and maintenance.
- Collaborate with IT and other departments to design and implement network-related projects, including the integration of cloud-based solutions and remote access technologies.
- Develop and implement disaster recovery plans and strategies for network infrastructure.
- Manage network documentation, including configurations, topologies, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide technical support for network-related issues and ensure timely resolution to minimize downtime.
- Stay up to date on emerging network technologies, tools, and best practices to enhance the company's infrastructure and security.
- Work closely with external vendors to procure, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware and software related to the network.
- Establish and enforce network policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure efficient and secure operation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience in network engineering, preferably in a small-to-medium-sized company environment.
- Strong experience in network design, implementation, and management (LAN, WAN, VPN, and firewall administration).
- In-depth understanding of network security best practices, including experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, and network access control systems.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar networking hardware and software.
- Familiarity with healthcare industry network regulations, including HIPAA compliance, is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to preventing and resolving network issues.
- Experience with cloud networking and hybrid cloud environments is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and within a team.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Occasional travel to remote sites may be required.
- Participation in after-hours on-call rotation for network support, if necessary.
