High school diploma or GED required. Current enrollment in an Occupational Therapy or Physical therapy program at an accredited institution or previous experience as a rehab technician is preferred. Employee will be trained on the job, and given annual competency testing by the department. Must be certified in CPR.
The assessment, care and treatment provided by the technician will be consistent with the specific age related needs of the client. The technician is competent to monitor client in the following age groups: adult and geriatric adult clients.
Employee is required to sit, stand and walk continuously. Employee must lift/carry light (1-20 lb.) and medium (21- 50 lb) loads continuously and heavy (50lb. +) loads frequently. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs with assistance. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, reach forward, and reach overhead continuously. Employee is frequently required to lift from floor to waist and to lift from waist to overhead. For repetitive actions, employee is required to use both hands for simple grasping, pushing/pulling and fine manipulation. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards, blood borne pathogens, and temperature changes.
Verbal and cognitive ability are necessary to understand oral and written instructions regarding set up and operation of equipment, as well as to relay information to staff members. Numerical ability is required to compute patient charges. Good body mechanics needed to minimize strain when demonstrating how to use equipment. Depth perception is needed in the handling of patients. Motor coordination and manual dexterity are required. Speech, hearing, and visual acuity are essential. Visual acuity is necessary to read instructions, charts, control dials and meters, adjust equipment (walkers, parallel bars, IV’s, oxygen tubing, Foley catheters, ventilator) Clerical perception is needed to keep accurate records. Work shifts may vary to meet specific client demands. Employee must demonstrate an ability to work with people tactfully and exhibit qualities of decision-making skills, judgment and motivation.
