Overview
The NOC Senior Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of our network operations center (NOC). They are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the NOC, maintaining network and system performance, and resolving any technical issues that arise. This position is vital to the organization as it directly impacts the reliability and performance of our network infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the operation of the network operations center (NOC) and ensure 24/7 monitoring of network performance.
- Respond to alerts and troubleshoot network, system, and application issues to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with internal teams and third-party vendors to resolve network and system issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain and update network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and processes.
- Analyze network performance data and generate reports for management and stakeholders.
- Implement and maintain network monitoring tools to proactively identify potential issues.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of network infrastructure upgrades and expansions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior NOC technicians.
- Conduct root cause analysis for network and system failures to prevent recurrence.
- Stay current with industry best practices and technological advancements in network operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Ensure compliance with security and regulatory standards in network operations.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for NOC operations.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to network emergencies outside of business hours.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience in network operations, network administration, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols, routing, and switching.
- Proficiency in using network monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, Nagios, and SolarWinds.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve network and system issues in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with internal teams, customers, and vendors.
- Proven experience in leading incident response and problem resolution efforts.
- Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and other network services.
- Certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Experience in implementing and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
- Familiarity with ITIL framework and best practices in IT service management.
- Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to network emergencies.
