Summary Of Position
As the Sr Director, Head of People, will lead our People function which is responsible for managing all aspects of the employee lifecycle. This role is strategic doer. This role will also partner with key organizational stakeholders to build and evolve policies, programs, and processes to ensure a solid foundation exists across recruiting ops, HR ops, compensation/ benefits/ payroll, compliance, employee relations, and people programs. This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone who can blend HR best practices with a progressive mindset and awareness of innovative HR tech tools and practices.
Principle Accountabilities
This role will evolve Quay’s current People practices into scalable, repeatable processes that serve a diverse set of employees. Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic People Planning:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop People strategies aligned with the company’s overall goals and objectives.
- Identify emerging People trends and best practices to ensure the organization remains competitive in attracting, retaining, and developing top talent.
- Lead the development and implementation of People policies, procedures, and initiatives that support organizational growth and employee engagement.
- People Processes/Programs:
- Oversee the administration of compensation and benefits programs, ensuring competitiveness and compliance with legal requirements.
- Conduct salary surveys and benchmarking studies to ensure the organization’s compensation practices remain competitive.
- Collaborate with Finance and other departments to manage the People budget.
- Manage and evolve Quay’s Total Rewards Program, including compensation, benefits, rewards, and other forms of recognition
- People Analytics/HR Tech:
- Manage and leverage HR Tech stack and ensure data integrity across various systems and tools. (Trinet / Zenefits, Paycor, JobScore)
- Utilize People analytics and data-driven insights to measure People effectiveness, identify trends, and inform decision making.
- Use data to drive continuous improvement in People processes and practices.
- Compliance:
- Develop and manage progressive people policies and procedures that are compliant with all local and national labor/safety laws for both exempt and non-exempt employees.
- Employee Relations:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to management and employees on a wide range of HR-related issues, including performance management, employee relations, and conflict resolution.
- Develop and implement programs to promote a positive work environment and employee engagement
- Investigate complex employee relations issues, conduct investigations as needed, ensuring fair and consistent resolution.
- Learning &Talent Management
- Oversee the recruitment and selection process, ensuring a diverse pipeline of qualified candidates for all positions.
- Develop and implement talent management strategies to attract, retain, and develop high performing employees.
- Develop and implement training and development programs to enhance employee skills, knowledge, and competencies
- Identify learning needs and opportunities for career development, succession planning, and leadership development.
- Strengthen Quay’s onboarding program that helps employees operate off the same values system and company knowledge
- Collaborate to evolve Quay’s performance review, professional development, retention, and promotion processes.

Fiscal Accountabilities: Manage budget for people projects and head count
Key Working Relationships
In addition to working closely with all members of the People team, this role will need to work closely with all business partners across all functions and regions. The candidate must be completely comfortable presenting information to Senior Leadership.
Desired Skills & Experience
- 5+ years in a HR management/leadership role with strong preference for People Ops leadership experience
- Bachelor’s degree; preference for master’s degree in business, org behavior, human resources, I/O psych
- Expert knowledge of labor laws/policies, CA laws and compliance, and employee relations
- Experience working with non-exempt employees; strong preference for experience with a retail organization
- Experience with a high-growth company; strong preference for experience developing and scaling People Ops practices
- Exceptional communication skills – able to both summarize and explain complex topics
- Exceptional collaboration and stakeholder management skills – know who/when to involve or inform business partners
Compensation: $190,000 – 230,000 base compensation; this position is eligible for bonus and equity
Travel Requirements: Some travel may be required for this role as part of Employee Experience, up to 10%
Physical Requirements
- Quay is based in San Francisco. This role will be local hybrid, working in our office in the Financial District Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- This position will be based in an office environment. Primarily sedentary work with occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Must be able to perform essential functions (with or without an accommodation) without posing a "direct threat" to the health and safety to self or others.

Compensation: From $190,000.00 to $230,000.00 per year
