Overview:
Sebastian Tech Solutions is actively seeking a motivated, skilled, and highly self-directed Systems Administrator to support our valued customer at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), NM. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team environment responsible for the day-to-day administration, security, and optimal performance of complex IT infrastructure systems. The Systems Administrator will collaborate closely with technical and non-technical staff, helping define project objectives, ensuring quality assurance, and effectively coordinating efforts among team members to successfully deliver projects according to plan. Clear, proactive communication and proven technical expertise are critical for success in this position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure all client IT services maintain continuous operational availability (24x7).
- Quickly identify, diagnose, and resolve system outages, minimizing downtime and performance impacts.
- Assist with the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of a broad range of technologies including virtual server/desktop infrastructure, web hosting/application support, printers/multifunction devices, domain services, enterprise infrastructure, data backup solutions, endpoint security, and enterprise monitoring/operations.
- Ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) 8500 series guidelines and NIST 800-53 security controls for all hardware/software solutions.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive systems architecture documentation and related engineering/administration materials.
- Research, develop, integrate, demonstrate, and test innovative technology solutions.
- Create detailed test plans to evaluate hardware/software proposed for implementation or production use.
- Conduct thorough system evaluations, documenting performance, scalability, and functionality findings.
- Perform rigorous backup, restore, and disaster recovery operations in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct thorough testing before applying system changes, patches, and updates to maintain functionality and interoperability.
- Implement, monitor, troubleshoot, and document patches, updates, software versions, and additional tools across servers and endpoints.
- Ensure server log management adheres strictly to SOP requirements, providing documentation to the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) upon request.
- Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled server patching during off-peak hours when necessary.
- Provide specialized engineering consulting and manage compliance adherence.
- Prepare and deliver technical training to both IT staff and end-user personnel.
- Maintain rigorous data integrity and virus protection practices across all systems.
- Proactively manage resources to ensure maximum availability and performance of all systems.
- Actively participate in the Change Management Control process, submitting well-documented Requests for Change (RFCs).
- Administer and manage security tools such as ACAS, SCAP, and Radix.
- Ensure timely compliance with Cybersecurity Vulnerability Alerts and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), including maintaining STIG checklists and artifacts.
- Support multiple technology platforms such as virtual server/desktop infrastructures, domain management, data backup, endpoint security, web hosting/application support, and enterprise monitoring.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum High School Diploma with 12+ years of directly applicable experience OR Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) with 10+ years of directly applicable experience (Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred).
- Active Interim Secret Clearance required (must be eligible to upgrade to Top Secret).
- Must have or be able to obtain within 6 months a computing environment certification relevant to assigned responsibilities.
- Current DoD 8570.01-M baseline certification required upon hire (e.g., Security+).
Preferred Experience/Skills:
Experience with any of the following technologies is highly preferred:
- Windows Server 2019/2022 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7/9 environments.
- Enterprise management tools such as Satellite, Puppet, Ansible, Centrify, JAMF.
- Apple OS X integration with Windows environments.
- Data backup and storage solutions including Veeam Backup, ExaGrid appliances, PureStorage flash arrays.
- Citrix Xen Desktop, Xen App, and NetScaler implementations.
- Microsoft domain administration, including Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy management.
- Endpoint security platforms such as McAfee Host Based Security System (HBSS) and Army Endpoint Security System (AESS)/ePO server.
- Splunk Enterprise Security platform.
- Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
- Web server administration: Microsoft IIS and Apache.
- Proven experience implementing rigorous change management practices.
- Strong ability to work independently, self-managing project deadlines and responsibilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated capacity to clearly convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- A collaborative attitude, capable of following instructions and proactively supporting team success.
