The Overview
Smart Home gadgets, routers and computers are just a few of the thousands of products we test at Consumer Reports. With over 130 testing and research experts and 63 state of the art labs, our Westchester headquarters is the largest nonprofit educational and consumer product testing center in the world.
Reporting to the Manager, Test Technicians and working in our lab environment, you will conduct simple to complex tests on multiple categories of consumer electronics. If you are tech savvy combined with the need to know how things work, read on.
This position requires you to work onsite at our facility in Yonkers, New York. The successful candidate must reside within 75 miles of our Yonkers, NY location. This position is not eligible for Sponsorship (TN, L1, etc.)
How You'll Make An Impact
Our test results and recommendations help consumers make critical and informed buying decisions. Sometimes they even encourage individual companies to improve their competitive advantage by meeting CR’s test standards in their own QA departments.
As a Senior Test Technician Electronics, you’ll test products according to documented and established processes. This includes checking, calculating and recording your findings while checking for anomalies in data and performance. Your responsibilities will include reviewing the data and approaches used by your colleagues and as needed, preparing, maintaining and calibrating our testing devices and equipment. When we test new products or categories, your category expertise will help us develop new methodologies and test protocols.
About You
You'll Be Highly Rated If:
- You have lab and testing experience. We’re looking for someone with 2-3 years of conducting product testing in a laboratory or test environment.
- You have a strong technical aptitude and can analyze, interpret and communicate test results.
- You’re connected. You have experience testing and tinkering with electronics products and network products (like routers).
- You are deadline-driven. You have worked towards and consistently met rigid time timelines when completing projects.
- You are computer proficient in Microsoft Excel (formulas, data recording and pivot tables) plus familiarity with G-Suite or similar programs.
- You are comfortable working in an environment with heat, cold, vibration, and noise. Sensory acuity (taste, smell, hearing, vision, and tactile).
- You’re passionate about continuous improvement. You understand the principles of Lean and Kaizen and are eager to identify and implement process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and overall outcomes. Your proactive approach to identifying opportunities for optimization sets you apart as a key contributor.
You'll Be Our Top Pick If
- You have an engineering degree. Bonus points for those with a computer or electrical engineering degree.
- You have experience in cybersecurity or have earned a network or cybersecurity certificate.
- You understand the synergy when form meets function. You have prior experience in product testing and are able to apply your understanding of how consumer products work in terms of their design and purpose.
- You’re a clear communicator. You can share your findings clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
Fair Pay & A Just Workplace
At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $78K-$80K. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies and experience.
