DescriptionResponsible for the architecture, design, and management of OT network systems supporting critical infrastructure. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of networks that support energy management systems (EMS), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and other operational technology systems. The architect possesses in-depth knowledge of OT environments, cybersecurity best practices, and the integration of IT and OT systems both on-premises and cloud-based.
Note:
There is one position available and the position will be filled at one of four job grade levels: OT Network Architect I, job grade 7; OT Network Architect II, job grade 8, Energy OT Network Architect III, job grade 9; or Senior OT Network Architect, job grade 10. This decision will be based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected, and Tri-State business needs at the time of hire.

Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain OT network architectures that ensure high availability, scalability, and security.
- Design and implement secure communication networks for EMS, SCADA, and substation systems, including wide-area and local-area networks (WAN/LAN).
- Configure and manage OT-specific cybersecurity devices such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and security information and event management (SIEM) solutions.
- Design and enforce network segmentation policies using firewalls and virtual private networks (VPNs).
- Implement and maintain network security devices such as next-generation firewalls (NGFW), intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and access control systems.
- Ensure compliance with NERC CIP, IEEE, and other industry regulations and standards.
- Conduct regular network security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing.
- Oversee configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of OT networks, including routers, switches, and wireless access points.
- Implement and manage network monitoring tools like SolarWinds, Wireshark, and packet analyzers to ensure operational integrity.
- Conduct root cause analysis and develop remediation plans for network and security incidents.
- Plan and execute lifecycle upgrades for network and security hardware and software.
- Lead projects integrating IT and OT networks, focusing on secure and efficient data exchange.
- Evaluate and implement technologies such as software-defined networking (SDN), 5G, and industrial IoT to enhance OT network performance.
- Integrate advanced cybersecurity solutions, such as anomaly detection systems and endpoint protection tools, into OT environments.
- Work closely with other technology, operations, engineering, and compliance teams to align OT network strategies with business goals.
- Provide technical leadership for OT network-related projects and initiatives.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, promoting knowledge sharing and development.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on OT network and cybersecurity technologies.
- Establish benchmarks for network testing in conjunction with OT management and in accordance with OT CIP procedures.
- Monitor network and security events and generate periodic security reports.
- Prepare status reports and keep management, client and other stakeholders informed of project status and related issues.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures and attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of regulations, laws, standards, and best practices applicable to functional area.
- Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job.

QualificationsEducation and Training
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with SCADA systems, substation automation, and utility-specific OT environments.
- One or more certifications such as Cisco CCNP, ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Fundamentals, or GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) are highly desirable.
