GENERAL DESCRIPTION: To implement the mission of the Special Programs division with a primary emphasis on Deaf/HH programs by assisting supporting and providing technical assistance and guidance to service providers in school districts and child development centers.

- Provide consultative support, technical assistance, and program guidance to service providers in school districts and child development centers through onsite training, emails, and phone support.
- Supporting Deaf/HH students and providers by analyzing and utilizing data specific to Deaf/HH students.
- Participate in State and National Events and Boards related to the education of students with hearing loss.
- Participate in Wyoming Hands and Voices events and initiatives to support family engagement and participate in EHDI board meetings to inform on early childhood hearing loss incidence and management.
- Provide support to Special Programs for general supervision duties to include monitoring and professional development. Assist in and support the goals, mission, and initiatives of the WDE.
- Ensure WDE has state articulations to fully implement federal IDEA.
- Attend trainings and all staff meetings which provide an understanding of the primary goals and initiatives of the department.
- Link district personnel to Wyoming Department of Education staff who can provide information on specific questions or needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
A master's Degree and at least 5 years of experience working in the field of Deaf Education, from birth through 21 years of age.
KNOWLEDGE:
- The ability to communicate effectively with deaf/hard of hearing individuals, knowledge of hearing loss, and be able to read an audiogram.
- Have basic knowledge of technology e.g. remote microphones, sound field systems, hearing aids, bone-conducted hearing devices, and cochlear implants.
- Have knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Be able to discuss the contents of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and maintain professional dress and appearance.
- Have the ability to remain professional and unbiased while working with constituents.
- Must be a self-starter as a consultant e.g. contacting schools, setting appointments and schedules, and be able to independently work.
- Realize when it is necessary to reach out to a team member and or SPED division for guidance and information needed to properly serve a student.
- Be aware tax dollars are used to perform this job and be prudent with the resources.
- Know what resources are available in the deaf/hard of hearing library in Casper.
- Demonstrate competency with computer skills for email, documents, and tracking technical assistance work.
- Have the ability to construct power points and set up virtual meetings/workshops via Google Meet or Zoom.
- Must have physical ability to travel.
- Must be able to work as a team player and assist team members as needed.
