JOB DESCRIPTION: IT Technician (Level 2)
Summary:
We are seeking a diligent and motivated Level 2 IT Technician to join our team. This position plays a critical role in supporting the retail cannabis operations and ensuring the seamless functioning of technical systems, including Point of Sale (POS) infrastructure. Reporting to the Director of IT, the technician will work across a broad range of technologies, including POS and systems administration, networking, and hardware/software troubleshooting, primarily at our retail dispensaries. This role is ideal for a highly skilled IT professional who is able to persist through difficult problems and deliver results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Retail Technology Support:
- Provide advanced support for retail POS systems, including hardware such as terminals, barcode scanners, and receipt printers, as well as associated software. Ensure all components are fully operational and resolve issues efficiently to minimize downtime. Collaborate with vendors to manage software updates, troubleshooting, and escalations.
- Systems Administration:
- Manage and maintain a variety of operating systems, including Windows and Apple devices, ensuring they are updated, secure, and fully integrated with business systems.
- General IT Support:
- Manage IT helpdesk with a high level of professionalism and efficiency. Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving technical issues, including software troubleshooting and peripheral device configuration, while ensuring clear and timely communication with end users. Maintain detailed documentation of resolutions to enhance the knowledge base and streamline future support efforts. Consistently demonstrate the ability to remain composed and effective under pressure, delivering exceptional service in high-stress situations.
- Networking and Connectivity:
- Troubleshoot and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and Wi-Fi networks. Assist in configuring and optimizing network devices to ensure high performance and reliability across multiple locations.
- Technical Projects:
- Participate in or lead IT projects that align with the company�s goals, including hardware rollouts, system migrations, and the implementation of new technologies. Provide support during the planning, deployment, and support phases to ensure successful project execution.
- Compliance and Security:
- Work closely with the compliance team to ensure IT systems adhere to regulatory standards, particularly within the cannabis industry. Implement and maintain robust security measures to safeguard sensitive information and protect critical systems from potential threats.
- Strategic IT Contributions:
- Collaborate with the Director of IT to identify areas for improvement, propose innovative solutions, and contribute to the overall IT strategy. Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend and implement new tools or practices that enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrable expertise in computing and systems troubleshooting.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including configuration and troubleshooting of switches, routers, and firewalls.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and tools, along with the ability to implement and manage IT systems in compliance with industry regulations.
- Proven ability to handle escalated technical issues with professionalism, prioritizing tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical staff and stakeholders.
Other Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age, in compliance with cannabis industry regulations.
- A valid driver�s license and reliable transportation are required to support multiple locations.
- Willingness to travel to multiple locations during any given day.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders and working in challenging conditions.
- Availability for after-hours support on weekends and on-call assignments during holidays.
- Must live within 30 minutes of Kansas City.
Preferred Attributes:
- Understand fiber optic data transmission, types (single-mode vs. multi-mode), connectors, transceivers.
- Knowledge of how fiber and WAN services integrate with enterprise network equipment (e.g., routers, firewalls).
- Demonstrable proficiency with Windows, MacOS, and/or Linux.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, A+, or certifications related to Windows, Apple, or networking technologies.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, with a willingness to learn and adapt in a rapidly evolving industry.
