JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
We are searching for a motivated and talented Embedded Software Engineer to join our Embedded Software Department within the Guidance and Control Technologies Division at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). You will develop software and firmware for the autonomous control of current and future undersea systems and will be involved in end-to-end software systems development from design through integration and field testing.

You will:
Design, implement, integrate, and test software for performing autonomous vehicle guidance and control. This software includes monitoring sensors, controlling actuators, controlling motors. It also may include implementing algorithms for signal processing, detection, classification, tracking, decision-making, and interfacing with hardware subsystems
Collaborate within a team environment to integrate and test the software system
Generate software documentation and presentations
Occasional travel to support field testing and demonstrations
Additional responsibilities for higher level position includes:
Experience leading development activities within a project’s scope
Experience with a diverse set of processors, protocols, and toolsets
This job may be filled at multiple levels, depending upon the successful candidate's education and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher-level jobs. A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science is preferred.

Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA. This position will require periodic travel to remote locations in support of testing as part of a small team of researchers, engineers, and technologists.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$76,700.00 - $129,500.00
