National Grid is progressing journey to review and rationalize existing information systems and to establish data archival capabilities using OpenText Info Archive and AppBuilder tools. These will allow to minimize cost, application, and server footprint as well as address aging systems and their data retention requirements.

Job Purpose

National Grid IT team is currently seeking an innovative, adaptable, and results oriented Data Archiving Software Engineer that will help enable our archival platform, design, and implement decommissioning of the legacy systems with structured and unstructured data into the InfoArchive. Design and develop ETL to streamline data extraction, build of configurations and searches for the Info Archive system.

This role will allow learning new skill related to OpenText Info Archive product. Candidate will acquire knowledge and will become responsible for delivering and maintaining support for OpenText InforArchive product as well as guiding business clients to address their data archival needs in line with data retention policies. This role will report to the Director of IT Foundations within the National Grid IT organization. The IT Foundations team is responsible for the tools enabling the efficient, timely and cost-effective strategy development and delivery.

Key Accountabilities

The Software Engineer should possess complementary hands-on database analysis or systems administration experience and a broad base of skills and knowledge spanning digital technology
Work with our Lines of Business partners as to identify, define and clarify requirements to archive decommissioned applications
Work on supporting the OpenText InfoArchive components installation, administration, and configuration for enterprise scale deployment
Work on design and development of InfoArchive applications, search screens as required to meet project timelines
Work on extraction, transformation and loading of data from the source system to InfoArchive
Ensure performance and reliability of the InfoArchive solution and related components
Liaison with Customer Business and IT stakeholders to ensure delivery is as per agreed requirements and expectations

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

Good written and verbal communications skills
Good stakeholder management and influencing skills across colleagues, partners / vendors & business customers
Demonstrate the application of National Grid values in all interactions with colleagues, partners and stakeholders

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering or in related field

• Complimentary professional experience in software technologies

• Hands-on SQL developer and/or database administrator experience is a must

• Knowledge of Oracle or SQL Server RDBMS (database structures and query language)

• Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows Server OS commands

• Should have experience in Agile Methodology

• Strong analytical skills for solving complex problems independently

• Strong verbal and written communication skills on technical and non-technical levels

• Detail oriented and ensures quality of deliverables

• Working experience with XML and XQuery is a plus

• Knowledge of OpenText InfoArchive is a plus

• Knowledge of data archiving/migration is a plus

• Ability to work equally well with a team and independently

• The capacity for self-motivation, independent initiative and creative problem-solving

• Diligent attention to detail and strong technical intuition
