DevOps Engineer
This position is responsible for architecting, orchestrating, and operating the company’s hosting environment, ensuring connectivity, security, integrity, and reliability. The position collaborates with development and IT staff to deliver secure, robust, and reliable websites and web applications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information management, or equivalent experience.
- Certifications such as Linux Professional Institute (LPI), Red Hat, or equivalent UNIX/Linux certifications preferred.
- Strong background in RHEL/CentOS/Rocky systems administration.
- Proficiency with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Scripting experience in PHP, Python, Ruby, and/or Bash.
- Hands-on experience with Puppet configuration management.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in UNIX/Linux systems administration or DevOps roles.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Advises the VP of Information Systems and CIO on hosting, best practices, and operational issues.
- Installs and maintains Unix/Linux server and client operating systems at stable patch levels.
- Utilizes modern configuration management tools to maintain standards in the environment.
- Develops tools and libraries to assist in the delivery and deployment of hosted sites and applications.
- Ensures that the hosting environment is secure, has integrity, and meets company and client security and operational standards.
- Collaborates with development and IT staff to deliver high-quality, high-performance, secure sites and applications.
- Coordinates with client personnel and contractors regarding Linux and hosted applications.
- Responds to operational issues as they arise.
- Maintains and documents security policy implementation, including network access control and data backups.
- Ensures that company security standards are met and maintained. Maintains server operating systems to industry best practices.
- Maintains accurate network drawings and documentation.
- Effectively uses helpdesk ticketing systems, project management tools, and knowledge bases.
- Manages provisioning and de-provisioning of user and guest accounts.
- Reviews and processes system logs for security and performance issues.
- Ensures compliance with security standards for outward-facing systems.
- Coordinates with vendors for system or software remediation.
- Operates and administers data-backup systems and monitors server/client security systems.
- Ensures adherence to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and other company policies and procedures.
- Completes additional duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. with assistance.
- Extended periods of sitting in front of a computer monitor.
- Occasional off-hour work for projects or restoration of services.
- Some travel may be required, though infrequently over 100 miles.
