UI Health Care's Joint Office for Compliance is seeking a Senior Compliance Coordinator to lead policy education and training programs across the organization.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Training and Educational Programs
- Lead policy education by creating and delivering HIPAA and applicable policy presentations to all levels of UI Health Care staff
- Customize training program and broadcasts to address policy violation trends
- Review and revise HIPAA refresher and New Hire Privacy orientation ICON compliance courses
Consultation, Risk Assessment and Interpretation/Research of Regulations
- Review and revise institutional Business Associate Agreements and Data Use Agreements to HIPAA compliance and the enterprise is legally protected
- Work together with the Law Department and Purchasing department to evaluate BAA/DUA parameters
- Answer compliance hotline calls to answer questions, investigate violations and escalate issues as necessary
Investigation, Remediation and Reporting of Complaints and Reviews
- Perform medical record audits when request/necessary.
- Partner with HR to investigation potential HIPAA violations.
- Recommend and implement appropriate discipline for founded HIPAA violations.
- Prepare, coordinate and submit both patient notification letters and Office of Civil Rights reports in the event of a HIPAA breach.
- Triage phone calls associated with HIPAA infractions via the JOC Helpline.
- Reviews and responds patient and employee complaints and concerns regarding privacy practices
- Tracks and analyzed complaints to identify trends
Management of External Standards Review Process
- Act as a HIPAA liaison for the University of Iowa Center for Advancement, conduct UICA HIPAA trainings, conduct quarterly UICA audits in conjunction with Health Care Information Systems team.
- Apply Philanthropic opt out codes to all patient records requesting such a restriction.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3 years of related experience
- Demonstrated proficiency using MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, including the ability to format tables, retrieve data via queries, and create presentations.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in public speaking
- Experience developing training and education materials
- Excellent organizational skills required.Must be flexible, be able to change priorities quickly, and have the capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proven analytic, problem-solving, and organizational skills.Ability to work independently.
Desired
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to health care operations.
- Knowledge of University of Iowa Health Care policies and procedures.
- Experience in project management, quality improvement, or regulatory compliance.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records
