The Bronx County District Attorney’s Office (BXDA) seeks well-qualified staff whose diverse backgrounds contribute to serving the 1.4 million members of the Bronx community and to pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. BXDA has an opening for an experienced professional to serve as Privacy Officer. Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff and Chief of Operations and Budget, and with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the Privacy Officer will be responsible for interpreting and applying all applicable laws and regulations governing the disclosure of personal identifying information associated with all records on file including criminal case and staff records. The Operations Division is responsible for a wide array of non-legal and legal functions as well as strategic and contingency planning.

Job Responsibilities
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Establish and lead a privacy program for the BXDA consistent with applicable laws;
Establish an internal privacy audit program;
Undertake a comprehensive review of BXDA data and privacy activities and ensure that they are consistent with best practices and our legal requirements;
Develop and manage an organizational policy development process that includes procedures to ensure our services are consistent with our legal obligations with respect to privacy protection and information security;
Establish a process for receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating, and acting upon all complaints concerning BXDA privacy policies and procedures;
Monitor and review the privacy policies and procedures to ensure they remain up to date;
Provide leadership in the planning, design, and evaluation of privacy and security-related projects and activities;
Periodically revise the privacy program to address changes in laws, regulations or BXDA policy;
Provide privacy guidance to assist in the identification, implementation, and maintenance of BXDA information policies and procedures;
Monitor and report on the effectiveness of the privacy policies and procedures;
Address any privacy-related inquiries from employees, customers, and other stakeholders;
Manage any investigations and incidents related to privacy breaches;
Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance;
Maintain records of all privacy-related activities and
All other projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, or related field. A Juris Doctor degree is preferred but not required.
Minimum 5+ years of demonstrated experience in the field.
Knowledge of applicable privacy laws and regulations.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience requiring independent decision-making concerning program management or planning, allocation for resources and the scheduling and assignment of work, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
- An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in "1" above, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in "1" above, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1", "2" or "3" above. Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience described in "1", "2" or "3" above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3½ years.
