Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Junior Systems Administrator is responsible for providing technical assistance to computer system users and performing complex problem determination and resolution for all information technology matters. The Jr. Systems Administrator assists in designing, installing, maintaining, and generally supporting the server infrastructure, networking components, and security. Also, will assist in installing, maintaining, and supporting systems. Provides second-level technical support to users via e-mail, phone, the support ticketing system, or other methods while backing up the helpdesk support team. Must possess an advanced understanding of networking concepts and technology used within the organization; will be expected to elevate complex inquiries to the appropriate parties.
This position is on-site work and the Jr. Systems Administrator should be within a commutable distance to one of the following locations: Atmore, AL - Huntsville, AL - Reston, VA - San Antonio, TX - Reno, NV.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and software systems.
- Perform routine system updates, patches, and upgrades.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal functionality.
- Assist in managing and troubleshooting network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Help maintain network security protocols and access controls.
- Collaborate with senior administrators to optimize network performance and reliability.
- Provide technical support to end-users by troubleshooting hardware and software problems.
- Assist in setting up and configuring user accounts, email, and access permissions.
- Collaborate with the IT helpdesk to resolve user issues promptly.
- Assist in implementing and managing backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Perform routine data backups and ensure data integrity.
- Participate in disaster recovery drills and testing.
- Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Prepare reports on system performance and incident resolutions.
- Assist in implementing and enforcing security policies and protocols.
- Monitor system logs for security breaches and unauthorized access.
- Participate in security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement technology solutions that support business objectives.
- Assist in evaluating and recommending IT hardware and software purchases.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Strong understanding of computer systems, networking, and IT infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Basic knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well in a team and independently.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Any relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Associate) is a plus.

To visit other company sites, employees must be able to operate a motor vehicle and fly in an aircraft, both of which may require sitting for prolonged periods of time. Employees must possess vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Standing in work areas and walking between work areas will be required. This position requires an employee to occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance; reach, push, and pull drawers and doors open and closed. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
