Position Overview: The System Administrator is responsible for maintaining properly functioning servers, computers, and lab equipment throughout all FNU campuses including classrooms and Offices. Oversee the IT department’s day-to-day operations and IT Service processes. This position oversees the monitoring, analyzing, and responding to security incidents, as well as implementing preventive measures to mitigate risks. The IT office also provides training for staff in the use of different software and networking.
Key Responsibilities
- Communication Management: Respond promptly to daily communications via email and voicemail, addressing inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Policy Adherence and Ethical Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to the University's mission, policies, procedures, ethical standards, Catalog, Staff Handbook, and compliance with data protection regulations and pertinent legal regulations in all aspects of admission activities; as well as the University Athletic Department’s vision, mission, values, and aims and objectives.
- University Engagement: Participate in university events, committees, self-studies, new student orientation, and commencement exercises and ceremonies as needed.
- Special Projects & Assigned Duties: Execute special projects assigned by the President, Director of Athletics , or another supervisor. Perform any other assigned duties as required.
- Compliance Adherence: Ensure strict compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, as well as FNU Policies, Procedures, Rules and Regulations, the FNU Code of Ethics, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 (FIPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”), and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
- Read, understand, and comply with the College’s mission, the catalog, the College’s policies and procedures, the Staff Handbook, and the Institutional Effectiveness process.
- Oversee and direct the IT department’s day-to-day operations.
- Responsible for the supervision of the Assistant System Administrator and the IT team members.
- Responsible for improving IT operations performance and IT service delivery methods
- Monitor and promptly respond to security incidents within our Azure environment, investigating and containing threats.
- Define access privileges and control structures to keep our systems safe.
- Periodically review Azure firewalls, network security groups, and virtual networks.
- Advise managers and senior executives on security enhancements.
- Manage Azure Security Groups, applications, and Resources
- Configure, deploy, and maintain the Operating system image
- Monitor and address all Unitrends backup failures promptly
- Configure, and update Network switch on all network segments
- Configure and maintain the Network and server Alerts monitoring system
- Configure and update Network Port Security on all switches
- Support Clover credit card swipe machines
- Terminal Server management and configuration
- Configure, update, and maintain Azure ADConnect
- Work with the firewall vendor to configure and update VPN security policies
- Configure Windows servers, routers, switches, LAN, WAN, Internet WAP, and Remote Desktop communications.
- Maintain properly functioning computers and laboratory equipment including classroom projectors and cameras.
- Interact with Student Services staff to identify needs and requirements for their support issues.
- Engage 3 rd party vendors and service providers in the event of any system failure.
- Responsible for computer security updates installations and OS patches in a timely manner using WSUS.
- Manage and maintain the university antivirus solution (SentinelOne)
- Maintain and upgrade of FNU phone system (Avaya)
- Configure system Data backup jobs according to the University data retention policy.
- Conduct backup restore in the event of data loss and file corruption
- Test new software packages, methods to roll out new software and OS, and remote assistance.
- Document system setups and IT service procedures by creating SOPs.
- Provide staff with training in computer software or network if required.
- Respond quickly when called by the Campus Deans, faculty, and administration offices and informed of new or existing problems with hardware or software.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in CIS/MIS and/or 4+ years equivalent work experience in a System Administrator role.
- Familiarity with Azure services (Azure Key Vault, Azure AD, Azure Firewall, etc.).
- Experience managing large and small IT projects.
- Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator , IT management or similar role.
- Experience with SQL databases, networks (LAN, WAN), and patch management.
- Experience working with Microsoft Windows terminal servers
- Must have experience working with virtual environments such as Nutanix and Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Experience with phone system configuration including VoIP and POTS lines
- Experience with system security (e.g. firewall configurations) and data backup/recovery.
- Experience with VPN Encryption, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management
- Microsoft Active Directory and Security best practices.
- Experience with creating scripts in PowerShell or other similar languages
- Extensive experience working with Windows / Mac Operating systems and other platforms including Thin-Client Embedded OS.
- Professional certification (e.g. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)) is a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft/Windows product family such as Office 365 /DNS/ DHCP/ Server 2016/2019/Azure AD and Domain Controller (DC).
- Experience working on infrastructure configurations, i.e. switches, routers, firewalls, and low-voltage cables.
- Experience working with Asset/Image Management and patch management solutions.
- Extensive Knowledge working with Microsoft Active Directory and account Security best practices.
- Maintenance/Management of enterprise NAS and other data storage products.
- Possess the uncompromised ability to protect the confidentiality/privacy of others and company documents and records.
- Strong communication skills: must be comfortable with engaging in a variety of different communicative modes; verbal, non-verbal, and written with different levels of management
- Must be able to work weekends and after hours whenever needed.
