Description

The Department of English and Modern Languages in the College of Liberal Arts is accepting applications for a position as Visiting Professor of Spanish and Sociolinguistics.

Examples of Duties

  • Teach undergraduate language, linguistics, cultural and special topic courses in Spanish as assigned.
  • Teach graduate level linguistics courses in Spanish or English.
  • Maintain an active research agenda.
  • Serve as an academic advisor for majors in the department.
  • Serve on departmental, college and university committees.
  • Maintain an active professional development agenda.
  • Work cooperatively with the Coordinator of Foreign Languages and faculty.
  • Accept direction from assigned peer evaluators in developing and implementing syllabi, teaching methods, assignments and grading standards to achieve program-wide student learning outcomes.
  • Attend face-to-face general department and specific program meetings.
  • Perform other essential duties by required deadlines relevant to instructor teaching assignments, as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Spanish or Hispanic Studies with a focus in Sociolinguistics or Second Language Acquisition by date of appointment.
  • At least three (3) years of college or university instruction in Spanish.
  • Native or near-native language proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Proven effectiveness in teaching and advising.
  • Training and teaching in linguistics and global language and culture preferred.
