The Department of English and Modern Languages in the College of Liberal Arts is accepting applications for a position as Visiting Professor of Spanish and Sociolinguistics.
Examples of Duties
- Teach undergraduate language, linguistics, cultural and special topic courses in Spanish as assigned.
- Teach graduate level linguistics courses in Spanish or English.
- Maintain an active research agenda.
- Serve as an academic advisor for majors in the department.
- Serve on departmental, college and university committees.
- Maintain an active professional development agenda.
- Work cooperatively with the Coordinator of Foreign Languages and faculty.
- Accept direction from assigned peer evaluators in developing and implementing syllabi, teaching methods, assignments and grading standards to achieve program-wide student learning outcomes.
- Attend face-to-face general department and specific program meetings.
- Perform other essential duties by required deadlines relevant to instructor teaching assignments, as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Spanish or Hispanic Studies with a focus in Sociolinguistics or Second Language Acquisition by date of appointment.
- At least three (3) years of college or university instruction in Spanish.
- Native or near-native language proficiency in Spanish and English.
- Proven effectiveness in teaching and advising.
- Training and teaching in linguistics and global language and culture preferred.
