2023 JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: IT TECHNICIAN Department: Administration Reporting to: Executive Director FLSA Status: Exempt Salary: $60k Schedule: 9am-5pm Location: Administrative Office The Mission: The Company: Created in 1965, the 163rd Street Improvement Council, Inc. (or the Council, as we like to call it) involved itself in the fight against community deprivation of resources in the South Bronx. Determined to make a difference in the lives of the residents, the Council began to create affordable housing in the community. Pioneers in the Bronx for housing and human service programs, we offer the special needs, homeless, and low-income populations an array of support services. We have become a source of Strength, Support, and Stability for those on the journey from homelessness to fully appropriate housing. Our approach is unique and innovative. We provide a continuum of care, including a range of transitional, congregate, and other residential programs. The Role: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented IT Specialist to join our dynamic team. The IT Specialist will be responsible for managing and supporting the organization’s IT infrastructure, ensuring systems run efficiently, and assisting with the troubleshooting of any technical issues. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, a proactive problem-solving attitude, and the ability to communicate complex IT concepts to non-technical users. The IT Technician is responsible for installing and maintaining computer systems and networks aiming for the highest functionality. You will also “train” users of the systems to make appropriate and safe usage of the IT infrastructure. Specific Requirements: This is a full-time shift position scheduled between the hours of 9am-5pm. Staff may be asked to adjust their work schedule depending on the operational needs of the site. The IT Technician may be required to travel to different sites to provide IT services. Duties and Responsibilities: * IT Infrastructure Management: * Install, configure, and maintain hardware and software systems, ensuring optimal performance and security. * Monitor and manage network systems and to ensure reliability and uptime. * Provide day-to-day IT support for internal users, responding to and resolving hardware, software, and networking issues. * Technical Support: * Serve as the first point of contact for internal staff needing technical assistance. * Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve software and hardware issues for end users. * Provide training and guidance to staff on new IT systems, tools, and software applications. * System Security: * Implement and manage security measures to protect the organization’s network and data, including firewalls, anti-virus software, and encryption protocols. * Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and best practices for IT security. * Regularly back up data and assist in disaster recovery planning. * Software & Hardware Management: * Install, update, and maintain software applications across the organization. * Assist with the procurement and setup of new hardware (desktops, laptops, network devices, etc.). * Coordinate with vendors and third-party service providers for specialized IT services and hardware procurement. * Network and Systems Support: * Manage and support network devices (routers, switches, Wi-Fi access points) and troubleshoot network connectivity issues. * Maintain and update server configurations, user permissions, and system logs. * Ensure smooth operation of communication tools, including email systems and VoIP services. * Documentation & Reporting: * Maintain documentation for IT procedures, system configurations, and troubleshooting steps. * Prepare regular reports on IT performance, incidents, and system health for management. * Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. Essential Skills and Qualifications: * Education: * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). * Experience: * 2+ years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or network administration. * Hands-on experience with Windows environments. * Experience with networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.) and network hardware. * Technical Skills: * Proficient in troubleshooting hardware and software issues. * Knowledge of network administration, firewalls, VPNs, and cybersecurity best practices. * Experience with cloud services ( Microsoft Azure) * Familiarity with common enterprise applications (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, etc.). * Familiarity with SharePoint, Microsoft Teams and OneDrive * Familiarity with MDM Software * Web design experience a plus * Certifications (preferred): * CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ * Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or similar certifications * Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) * ITIL Foundation certification or similar. * Soft Skills: * Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. * Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively. * Must be a self-starter who is highly organized, able to prioritize and is highly flexible/adaptive. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. Working Environment: This position will be held in a professional office. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This position is subject to travel.
